Permanent Fixtures in your collection?

As many of us love to switch watches every now and then, curious to know what are the true "keepers" or permanent fixtures in your collection and why?

One I would truly call a "forever" watch is the Patek 5712/1A for me. Been chasing after this one for years, and remember the day and moment when a very kind TRF member connected me with one at MSRP. Love the classic watch size and proportions, perfect balance of casual and dressy and all the details, such as the chameleon blue dial, the moonphase and the micro-rotor movement.

As for the others, I don't think I have had them long enough to consider true "forever" watches yet. Though I could see either (or all) of the 116519LN, BLRO and BLNR being "forever" watches too. I know I'll always need to have a Daytona and GMT in my collection, but in which exact variation, I still need to figure out. Not that I have any intention to flip any of them either.

Permanent Fixtures in your collection?

My 16610. My first real watch and I wore it everyday for 10 years then foolishly sold it when I was caught up in buying the next hard to get reference. Was able to buy my 16610 back through a twist of fate and now it’s a permanent fixture.

Great 5712/1A OP. Not a bad keeper you have there. Cheers!

I know there are a lot of people that enjoy the sport of buying / selling / buying, but every watch I purchase or has been purchased for me has a story. I don’t think I will ever sell a watch to fund another. For example my SubC date will always stay with me because it was my first big purchase that I strived for since high school. My TT datejust was passed down to me by my father because my mother bought it for him over thirty years ago. My Tag Formula one was a graduation gift. My next piece will be a Daytona as a wedding watch.

I totally get those who decide to buy / sell, but I personally buy a watch for big occasions that mean something.

I love all my watches and don’t consider selling. However, if I have to sell due to unexpected reasons, I will try to avoid selling the 5712, hulk and fp journe chronometre bleu. My collection is still growing and I aspire to own Daytona and pepsi which I expect to become untouchables in the collection as well. I would have loved to say the same about the ap 15407st but it seems easier to get nuclear launch codes of a president of one of the world leading countries than getting one

I don't have any watches in my small collection that I'm going to sell. But the one that is the 'most keepiest' is my first, a 1985 DateJust that my parents gave me when I graduated from college. I no longer wear it and my parents are gone, but it will never move on.

5712a is a nice watch for sure. But I’m wondering how many years you have been chasing this model? I remember even back in 2016 this watch is widely available at ADs. The craziness only started a year or two ago.

I have had many watches, they were all, "for life" watches at the time of purchase and for a while after. They give me great pleasure but at some stage, they all helped fund my next "for life watch." Will I ever find that elusive watch? Don't know, but it is fun trying.

Do I miss any of them? No.

I am not attached to any individual watch and have and will trade/sell as my tastes change. I do seem to enjoy dive watches and have consistently had a Rolex Diver in my collection for more then 25 years, just different ones. I currently have a Rolex SD43.

It's an interesting question Tom ... great topic

I'd like to think the ones I currently have, won't be going anywhere soon ...

I enjoy modern references that have ties to the past. All of mine have a shared DNA with their brothers from yesteryear. A shared sense of history and they feel special in that sense. The radiomir, the blro, the divers; all have a sense of this to me.

A watch also really has to sing to me as well. To be a keeper it must make me smile and can't become a chore to wear. I'm sure many of us have had watches that we bought thinking we loved them, but eventually got tired of them only to see less and less wrist time.

I also like a bit of color too, keeps things interesting

These ones fit the above criteria and are special to me. I can't see parting with them any time soon.

The caveat for me, is that I have come to realize that tastes do change so "permanent" may too strong a word, but for now yes they are permanent

Sub LN of some variety. 5513/5512, 14060/114060. Cannot remember a time in the last 25 years that I did not have a simple black Sub in the box.

Yup. I remember my wife and I at some AD at the Wynn in Vegas in 2016, they were willing to sell to me and 5% off if I recall correctly. Should have grabbed it back then, I recall it being like 30K at the time.

The only one I am attached to is my Sea Dweller that my wife bought me back in 1984... the rest is just watches, to be bought, enjoyed, sometimes sold...

Valid question. I've wanted one for a few years but the price point scared me away. Wasn't quite ready to spend so much money at the time they were available. Naturally, as I was psychologically ready to buy, priced started creeping up at an astronomical pace.

Was gifted a Sub by my aunt from my uncle's collection, and since then it's been the one that's worn the most often out of all my watches.

All of them

The BLNR was one my wrist when I was married, the OP when my daughter was born and the Seiko is just too perfect as a beater / holiday watch to ever replace

AP 15400 silver dial.

There's no watch, at any price built that I like more (or think I'm capable of liking more).

I've thought to myself many times of getting another 15400 but with a different dial color.

I'd also love to get a 5711 blue and a 15202 but realize there's probably zero chance of getting one in this lifetime sadly. Oh well such is life!
