Has my shipped sailed on a 16710 purchase?

Finally decided I would purchase a 16710 Pepsi this year. I’m gonna look for a full set, but not ruling out just the watch if a perfect Pepsi comes along. I started to look at prices and realized they have creeped up over the past couple of years. Did I miss the boat? Been dreading Basel World just in case something comes out which causes folks to buy these up or a major jump in price. Am I stressing for nothing? I won’t secure funds until late summer of this year. Been obsessing over a Pepsi much of 2019!!

The ship is always setting sail, it’s just the cost of a boarding pass that goes up year on year.

Regardless of Basel I think the 16710 will continue to rise just because it’s popular and they’re not making any more.

I can’t see the prices shooting much more than 500 by the end of summer.

You’ll always get one even if it means one with lug holes, no box and papers and a little over polished.

The mint late ones are silly money.

I know I shouldn’t be stressing this much over a watch, but you know how it is when you become obsessed with something. I WILL own one!

Find a super example and pull the trigger before it continues to sail away! Great value for the money and one of the most versatile Rolex IMHO!

PS not for a nice crisp complete example. Lots of polished down ones that look mediocre for that price though.

Still plenty of them out there though it’s hard to predict what way prices may go. I was fortunate to land this 2007 a couple of weeks back. Keep hunting!

Keep looking for the the one you want, but no major rush. I got my Z Pepsi last Nov and prices haven’t shifted all that much since then. But fast forward 2 years to 2021 and the jump is likely to hurt. I’m fortunate as I had no clue about the prices 4-5 years ago etc.

Here it is switched to Coke :)

Keep looking around. Typically 16710s that didn't come with a Pepsi bezel will sell for less even though you can easily switch out whatever bezel came factory. The later 16710s made this distinction on the card, but I do not think earlier models did. The models containing the 3186 movement sell for 3-4 times their retail. If you look around, you should be able to find a 16710 in decent condition with the older 3185 movement. There are still many for sale at somewhat reasonable prices.

Yep. Go to HQMilton or David ScalpWest and you can pay many times more than the watch is worth. Plenty still available.

The sooner you get the 16710, the better.

A couple of years ago the good used ones were going for $6k-7k, now they are running around $10k or so from what I have seen.

Mind you, I think the market for them has softened up a bit (especially after new SS BLRO and Tudor GMT were released), as I see examples locally here that are not being gobbled up the minute they hit the market.

Thanks for helping me keep the faith. Is it bad that a nice black 16710 Insert came along and I snatched it up? That shows my level of obsession right now. I need to take a breath and dial it back a notch.

The gmt is the most versatile Rolex and I own many of them and really like to collect them.

Agreed that the current market price of gmt is high but if you look back many years later, you’d think that you got the bargain.

It’s hard to say if you’ll see a big increase in the next sixth months. I pulled the trigger on mine and its become a favorite in my collection. I went for the stick dial 3186.

Always pay up for the best example you can find. You'll thank yourself soon enough with the way this reference is moving.

I’m really liking liking the serif fat font insert with tritium dial. Why do I always like the most expensive stuff?

The best time to buy a 16700 or 16710 was yesterday
