I paid a bit more than $7000 for my 1st Daytona from AD back then, 2nd one was at the current MSRP, that's an increase of some $5000

Why should we pay more? Even paying more doesn't mean your chance of getting a Daytona will be improved. I'd take a step back and a deep breath, these Rolex is far from inexpensive or affordable to most IMO.

I think you mean they are overvalued, which is certainly arguable, however they are certainly not overpriced, as the grey market clearly demonstrates. Whatever the reason, demand is demand, and even without the hype of flipper's demand, there is still a lot of WIS demand that is coming in from other brands and even DJ buyers now.

I think the SS Daytona's may even have stepped into veblen good status, so a price increase may only hype up the hype even more

Personally not a fan of the Daytona and I suspect there is a significant portion of Daytona owners who bought it because its rare rather than because of how it looks

Good point. Considering inflation over the last 15 years, prices aren’t as off as they may seem. I’m talking real inflation not inflation measured by our of touch reference index baskets of goods.

You wish, Mr. Daytona Owner/Speculator.

There are dollar signs reflecting in your eyes. Are you one of those who paid over retail to a grey scalper?

Smart money says bingo.

Given the fact that the SS Daytona goes for about $20k in the secondary market it is clear that a Rolex could and should significantly raise prices. I think $18,500 as msrp would make sense to balance the market. Thoughts on the timing and amount of next price increase?
You think that’s sustainable because of a group of desperate individuals and the scalpers taking advantage of them? It’s a mass produced watch with a fairly basic movement and finishing on par with other Rolexes half the price you’re suggesting. There’s more to this than hype.

supply/demand....will stay expensive until supply outstrips demand. The reason why luxury car market is booming. Wait list close to 2 years for some models.

has it ever happened that rolex increased price for one model only? because from what i know, when rolex implements a price increase, it is across the board for all models

Sticker price in July, 2010 (8 years ago) was $9900 or just a shade over that figure. At the AD where I purchased mine, there was no waiting list. They showed it to me, and I bought it. It was my first Rolex. Times have changed!
