Rolex 1803 Day Date?

Hey Everyone,

Wanted to get your thoughts on my collection and if you think this would fit in. I'm a young professional, 25 years old and work in a very old school industry. Currently my collection consists of a Ceramic No date Sub, BLNR, Speedy man on the moon and a Reverso Tribute to 1931 Steel.

Do you think the 1803 would fit in? What price should I be looking at? I'm not a stickler on Box and papers and not a big fan of the presidential bracelet. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for all of your help!!!

I would try to get an 182x8 (e.g. 18238) If you can unless you like the look of acrylic. It's just more usable, double quick and very water resistant.

If you dont like the prez, I would go with a leather strap. (have you tried on a prez?) I would think somewhere around the 10K mark would be good.

If you have the time and patience try to find the 1802 (smooth bezel), they usually come on a riveted bracelet. It's flimsier than the presidential bracelet but much cooler.
If you are very careful with your watches, you can choose the 1806 Florentine day date. The bracelet that comes with the 1806 looks as good as the most extravagant Patek bracelets from the period.
I personally would skip the gold/champagne dial and go with brown/anthracite/gray.

4 or 5 digit DD works great on a nice strap. Not really a dress watch guy so sported a 1803 on a brown Rolex alligator strap and it worked for a dressier watch in a mainly sport watch collection. Very comfortable set up on a strap. I did the YG with Champagne dial and YG buckle.

I would go with a 18038

You get the ‘vintage’ vibe plus a single quick movement and a sapphire crystal plus they can be had very reasonable especially on a strap.

Rolex 1803 Day Date?

I had and sold a 1803 because it was such a pain to set. I would never buy another one that didn’t have a quickset.

My 1803 is a great watch; it is some work to set on occasion but really not all that bad. If there is a significant price advantage then it may be worth it. As others have said the advantage to the 5 digit is in the quick set.

pie pans are great and old school....wideboys are more of a conversation piece...so if you can find a wideboy...then get that one and stick a nice croc strap on it.

you can get a 18038 single quickset for around 10k .... can get it on a strap for 6-7k .. The quickset feature is much easier. Unless you prefer the non quickset. I know where you can get a 1803 for around 5,300 - 5,500 on a strap with gold rolex buckle
