Are people buying the newer Seiko 5s?

Seiko suspended the popular SKX series and replaced it with a large line up of Seiko 5s. I just bought a gray one with a meteorite dial. But I am not seeing many posted. Too expensive for what they are? Not liking the design? Too new?

Sadly I am not in. I bought one early, then sold it.

I'm not feeling it. Maybe nostalgia for the fun, quirky, dependable stalwart SKX. Plus no screw down crown (flame on!)

I don't know what it's supposed to be. There are soooooo many references that is it a sports watch, a dress watch, a dive watch, a designer watch, a tool watch?

It's too schizophrenic for me. I'll stick to my SKX's and SRP's. But I have seen a couple cool modded ones.

Just my opinion. Enjoy them to the fullest if you have and like them!

I think the meteorite dials are retrofits are they not?

IMHO, the vast majority of the Seiko enthusiasts are NOT big spenders (on the Seiko brand) and they begin choking off around $1500 or so... add to that the really desirable models are in the 5000-6000 range (including GS) and one can see why there really isnt a big demand for that price point from Seiko.

It looks like an SKX, but doesn't have the water resistance of an SKX, and costs more. I'm not a big see-through caseback guy (I much prefer the Kanagawa wave). And call me weird, but I love my non-hacking, non-hand winding 7S26.

Stopper for me was the lack of screw down crown.

Am not a diver but buying a dive watch I would like it to be capable of the job.

Look lovely though and I guess would be another price point with screw down crown

I call the dial meteorite, but that may not be exactly it.

Mine came that way, not retrofit. I will post a picture.

In spite of my colossal diver collection

I can barely swim. If I go in a pool, I will generally throw on a plastic Casio. So the lack of a screw down crown doesn’t faze me.

My wife gets a chuckle out of my Breitling Superocean. I think that it is waterproof to 2000 meters. I am good for hanging on to the side of a pool with a drink.

I think the Seiko 5's are a great watch and would think they sell well. I am not sure that a lot of first time buyers are on the Forum as this watch is a cool gateway to others. The SKX models have been around for a while and many brought them forward as they added others to the collection. Just speculation on my part but it makes sense.

Me too. It's the most simple it can be, given the complications it has.

The lack of a screw down crown on the new one is a total no-go for me.
