I just received my first Panerai today believe it or not. I've always wanted one, but it took me quite a while to finally pull the trigger. Man, I'm glad I did!

At first I did really love the Luminor Due line, but then I found out it was only 30 M water resistant, which to me felt a bit wrong.

I also travel a lot overseas, so I sprung for the Luminor GMT PAM01033, and I love it. Buy what you love, and you can't go wrong.

It’s handsome but look at the 797.

Also considering my first, and only, Panerai. Thinking 422, 372, or 914.

Anyone have any advice? Want to stay true to the DNA and history of Panerai.

372 or 422 are solid choices. The 1950s cases are spectacular, they make the tuna can cases look like.....a tuna can.

372 pre S (from memory) have plexi crystal which is more true to the DNA, but many (including me) prefer sapphire.

422 has the 3001 movement with a power reserve on the rear, a useful feature for a 3 day movement and the seconds subdial gives the watch some life too. The zero hacking feature is nice too (pull the crown and the seconds reset to zero).

The 914 is pretty basic, the P5000 is a low grade movement and non hacking, not that it matters on the 914, but you can't monitor the time keeping and the P5000 have a reputation for variations depending on the state of wind. No power reserve on an 8 day movement is a no go for me too, I think the 372 is a better choice.

In agreement. The 912 is a beautiful Panerai.
