Breitling reputation. Please help !!

Hi. I'm not a watch exper or connoisseur.
Im in the market for a new watch and I've been reading and researching to make an informed decision.

I've seen many bad comments about Breitling in YouTube videos. Apparently quite a few people don't like Breitling, but they are not specific about their reasons.

IMHO Breitling makes beautiful watches. I like the Avenger and the SuperOcean.

My question is: what's wrong whith Breitling ??

To answer your question, nothing is wrong with them!
Personally, I really enjoy the Navitimer, it's a great watch..
Only downside I can think of, is they don't hold value well. But if you're buying a piece you intend to keep forever, then that doesn't matter.

Breitling produces superb watches. I own an Avenger II Seawolf. The professional III bracelet is amazing. I’m looking to add a Chronomat 42 to my collection at some point.

Breitling makes really great watches as a whole. They have made some mis-steps in past years, but seem to be finding their way again. They have a lot of history - first separate pusher chrono, beat Omega to space, the Iconic Navitimer, etc.

There are also some good values to be had from resellers.

Totally subjective. I really like Breitling and the rich history behind the brand as an owner.

As aforementioned, some folks won't be totally sold on the designs, especially the more tactical pieces. Also, resale value is soft so the indecisive or flippers won't be as keen to buy in if they'll take a bath.

To me it's about lifelong enjoyment. Buy what you like once it makes you happy! Breitling checks all the boxes for a watch to be enjoyed for many years and passed down.

Nothing about the watches themselves. Not part of the Rolex hype machine, but that just makes them more attractive to me.

They make some great watches!.....and they are often great values on the used market. However (IMO) new ones are absurdly overpriced. They are way out of “style” now and you can find great deals. Don’t hesitate to buy.

Breitling is a great brand and makes some very nice watches. Many get tied up in resale values, which are bad, and the fact that the watches are discounted from some retailers significantly. If you are not selling or trading not an issue.

So people are sheep and they follow what ever insta tells them. Reality is many breitling pieces including the navitimer and chronomat are far more historically important than the Daytona. I have owned a few breitling some for over a decade and they never needed service and kept time as well of better than my Rolex.

You can find videos of people criticizing anything. Breitling is one of the top brands. Excellent quality, design, and heritage.

I own two Breitling as well as many Rolex watches, and I enjoy wearing the Breitling every bit as much (at about a third of the price). I don't like every model, but that is the same with any brand. Buy and wear what you like. No concern regarding quality at all.

I have owned 2 Breitlings in the past and never had any issues with them. I lost interest in them a few years ago because it seemed they were not creating anything new and exciting. I must say their new leadership has them moving in the right direction. Yes resale values aren’t the best and prices are going up, but prices are going up on EVERYTHING right now, and as stated previously, if this is a keeper resale doesn’t matter. I actually have my eye on a new Premier Chrono.

I've owned a few Breitlings in my time and they have all been stellar and I like their aesthetic, often over Omega which can be a bit samey, sometimes they have been a bit too polished and shiny, but in a wide catalogue there is something there for everyone, esp the more recent move towards vintage and less loud pieces.

I'll just echo that they make great watches that don't retain their value well.

If you can get 30% off new that would be awesome. They are great watches. Pretty much every watch brand has poor resale except for the 2 or so we see a lot of here and even those few brands are limited to certain models.

I shoot for 30% on Omegas and unlike my Rolex I've never sold one. Buy the Breitling that speaks to you. They have a few drop dead gorgeous watches that I would love to own, resale be damned.

How bad can Breitling be if Rolex’s little brother uses their chronograph movement?

Breitling is an iconic brand with a solid history. They make beautiful and functional watches.

I respectfully suggest you do more reading on the brand and spend less time watching "videos" from people whose only goal is to monetize digital content.

I have owned several Breitlings, I still have this one and love it

Ah, you still have that faithful old Steelfish, Brian, I sold mine and do regret it at times, was one of the very first quality/luxury watches I bought.

Thanks, that is the beauty of Breitling even today IMHO.

I could not replace it for what I paid and I have canvas and rubber Breitling straps with deplyant buckles as well as the original steel bracelet. Easy to change, increases the enjoyment.

All ready for an upcoming beach trip on the rubber strap

Lovely, and good point on the straps and bracelets which Breitling make so well to give their watches so many looks, their croco leathers are still my fav leather strap.
