Whats the best Rolex for investment

I am hoping to purchase me first rolex

What would be the best model of Rolex to buy for an investment purpose

and how much should i be paying for the model

No Rolex should be purchased with a perceived notion of investment....
They should be worn and enjoyed!!!

Having said that, almost all Rolex watches will hold their value in the long haul, but will loose out in the short term.

Never purchase a luxury item for a dollar return. Only to enjoy!!!

Watches should not be bought as an investment. Buy the one you like and enjoy it. If it goes up in value that's great!

Your best bet to to buy a Pre Owned Submariner, GMT or SS Daytona. They seem to hold their value pretty good in the used market.

If buying with the sole reason not to loose money on a future resale then buy second hand as most of the depreciation would already have been taken.

As to what model to get who knows...how long will you own the watch, 1 year, 5 years, 20 years or more?? Will you wear it or keep it in a safe? are you looking to actually make money or just not loose any??

If it was me I'd buy a ceramic sub and would be looking to pay £4k. If and when you sold it you'd always at least get your money back.

I really love the submariner 16618 and would wear it for special occassions but at the same time i wouldnt want to lose to much money when purchasing one. I have been offered one that was sold in 2010. Any idea how much i should be paying and would this watch hold its value.

A Rolex is to be worn & enjoyed, not pampered or stashed away in a safe for that distant rainy day.

The issue when establishing second hand value is always who would you sell it too and what market place do you have available to you?

If you can create an established and well respected presence on a forum like TRF then you should have no problem in flipping watches as and when you like for pretty good values.

But without that.... you are limited to friends, family, ebay or second hand watch stores who will want at least a 20% margin for themselves. So this will seriously limit your available outlet and, because of that, the value of your pre-owned watches irrespective of what their true value is.

Its simple buy the watch you want just think you are investing in one of the finest mechanical watches made today.Then after wearing and enjoying that watch in good health for many many years in good health.Then if you need to sell and watch and it gives you a good return on original price paid.Then just think of it as a bonus on owning and wearing that watch in good health over those years.Now thats far more important than thinking about watches as investments I can assure you.

If you want to invest in a Rolex, buy a pre-owned watch, a watch has already depreciated. I bought a Sub made in 1967 back in 1988. I wear it, enjoy it and get it seviced when needed. Saying that it has gone up in value nicely over the years, but I didn't buy it for that.

Solid gold Rolexes and other brands are a very bad investment - unless you pay only the scrap value only (and then you will be subjects to the ups and down of the gold value in the future).

The right price for the mentioned Gold Sub depends very much on it's condition. Only a small chip on the wrong spot can make a HUGE difference!

You are looking at roughly $17,500-$18,500 for an M with box and papers in mint condition. They have held very steady over the years. Back in 03' one ran roughly $11,500-12,500 used and mint complete. Clearly that has not just held steady but has risen over the years! Great watch and hope it works out for you!

It is likely the Series(letter before serial number) for one sold in 2010 and also last one made.

Well a M case stamp means that the case was stamped sometime between August 2007 and end of July 2008.But thats not necessarily when the watch was made especially with the all gold models as in general they are very slow sellers when compared to the same models in S.steel.

This is true. My guess is one sold at an AD new in 2010 likely will be an M but you never know....

Well, I can almost guarantee you that if you buy any Rolex (used) or even new, give it about 30-50 years and you will definately make more than what you paid from inflation alone. This does not mean though that the real value of the money you made is more, depending on the economy in that time it could easily be though.

The watch you`re looking at is currently priced at 9 to 12 thousand pounds on Ebay,if you care to look.

Watches shouldn't be bought for investment. But if you insist on putting investment value as a top priority, then I'd purchase a slightly used steel Sub-C or steel GMT IIC with box+papers. They will most likely keep their values in the long run. Just make sure to wear it, a Rolex shouldn't be kept in a safe in a hope that it helps its value to go up...

The only advice I'd give is stick to stainless steel, and other than that get the one that speaks to you.

I got the GMT2 with black and red bezel about 4 years ago, paid ~$4k, and it's increased in value by about $1.5k since I got it.
I can wear it with jeans or with a suit just as easily, and I don't think I'll sell anytime soon!

For investment, I would buy stocks. For enjoyment, buy a Rolex. I would NOT buy a watch off ebay as there are so many fakes, unless you are a very experienced buyer. There are excellent sellers on this site who will give you a great price and you can trust them.
