Well, deposit was handed to my AD!

The deposits? I doubt it. As I alluded to, different states have different laws regarding pre-purchase deposits and I doubt Rolex can have one blanket policy that would be within all 50 states’ laws. If Rolex has any rules on deposits, I bet it’s in setting a maximum on deposits. Not sure why Rolex
would care about getting a deposit though, it seems exclusively an AD concern .

I believe these are all internal polices within an AD.

Beyond deposits, there may very well be a renewed opportunity to order again, I think you called it an intent to purchase. But the deposit component is likely specific to that AD.

Every month that goes by, they collect more interest.

Until the watch arrives, they have given Rolex $0 for your watch and are collecting interest for free on your deposit. Add that up customer after customer, and the AD has a sizable revenue stream…
5 % interest on 5 grand is only $20 a month......

Walked into an AD this weekend, explained what we were after - an datejust 36 - and the salesperson looked up his ipad and told us confidently that it should be in within 3-4 months. If we wanted to secure it I could leave a €2K deposit that I can get 100% back if they don’t meet their delivery estimate.

I was really surprised about the confidence around his estimate and he clearly had a way to check all models estimated delivery.

Thoughts on this? Just a way to lock me in by dangling an estimate and having me pay a deposit or do you think they’ll come through?

Yup! I was told the same, but if a real hot configuration, such as Wimbledon or Mint green, they can’t guarantee they can get it.

Looks like I need a new dealer. Shouldn't be hard to order a 31 mm steel DJ!
