Would you have issue with buying a 14-year old Patek?

Dear WIS-friends,

I am in the process of purchasing a lovely Patek 5167A that is in mint condition and newly serviced. I have not seen it in the flesh, but looks really good.

Make no misstake, I'm paying hefty premium here, but with consideration of the age of the watch (2009) I still think it's a decent deal. However, last night I started to think about if the age of the watch can be a factor in terms of the longevity of the dial (don't want any patina on a modern sport watch).

Would you have any issues other the fact that the age of the watch will be considered if and when I try to sell it in the distant future?

It's freshly serviced, I see no reason why the age would be a factor.

Absolutely no issue. I would be very surprised if there was any kind of petina.

My Seamaster is from 2009 and shows no signs of sun damage or anything of that sort. It has only been serviced once about 6 years ago. Runs great.

Freshly serviced 5167 shouldn't be a problem what so ever.

I would not be concerned. Bought mine 10 years ago, wore it every day for years, serviced once, keeps great time and any parts with excessive wear will be replaced at future service.

No issue. Inspect it properly for visual imperfections and factor in a full service in the price you're willing to pay (if not recently serviced). The watch is made to last lifetimes, with periodic services.

14 years old watch at the price of 80% of average market price, I would rather pay 100% market price for the latest one in great condition.

Exactly. Nothing to be concerned about. I'm assuming that by "serviced" you mean by Patek.

Yes, serviced by Patek...^^^...

What I meant, if it got the Geneva Seal movement is a bonus for me.... instead of the Patek Seal movement...

Sorry for the confused...

It’s funny how collecting works. Because for me, it’s not even close — I’d much rather own a freshly serviced, Geneva-sealed 5167A at a 20% discount to market price.

Nicely done, OP! Enjoy it.

I got this in May 2008, the original strap as developed somewhat of a Patina if you compared it to a new Composite strap, the dial looks like it did 15 years ago.

Personally would be totally fine with the watch, but would swap out for a new strap.

In terms of resale value, the age of the watch can be a factor, but again, it depends on its condition and how well it has been cared for. A well-maintained and serviced watch from 2009 could still be highly desirable to collectors, especially if it is a popular model like the Patek 5167A.
