Silent Running Movie

They year is 1972, I was very young. I wasn’t even born yet… OK, so that’s a lie, but I was very young. My mom was in the hospital (nothing serious) and my dad took me to a movie called “Silent Running.” It starred Bruce Dern, and was a box office flop. I watched it again streaming tonight and it reminded me of how I felt when I walked out of the theater. I was too young to actually cry emotionally, but it was that kind of feeling. I’ll never understand why it was not successful, but it does have a cult following. It’s only an hour and 20 minutes long and if you ever have the opportunity I highly-highly recommend watching. It has beautiful music sung by Joan Baez, is a space-future of Earth movie. My father and I were not very close, but this movie is one memory with him that makes me smile.

Here is actually the final scene, if you watch, it may peak your interest enough to see the entire movie; WELL worth it. A bit of trivia, the water can the robot uses belonged to the two-year old daughter of Bruce Dern, she had recently died in an accident. He was exceptional during the movie and some of the scenes he does talking about children you can see the emotion coming through.

Highly recommended

huey duey and louie...

it's a favorite 'protest' film of mine, and not just because there is a poker scene or two.

Had a high school teacher that had us watch that in class. Logan's Run, too. Thought Silent Running was the better movie, but the other one had Farrah Fawcett, so there was that

My dad took me to see the movie Midway when I was 8 or 9. I think it was the first movie to be shown at a theater in the DFW with the newest biggest screen and dolby sound. We drove to Ft. Worth because my dad was so excited to see it at this theater. While not the greatest movie, I still think about that adventure and never fail to watch the movie when it shows up on cable.

In Sensurround! The seats and floor rumbled when the engines rev’d and the walls rattled when the bombs went off.

Know it well, and remember seeing it several times as a kid.

Great movie, my son just stumbled on it and loved it.

I can see "Logan's Run" has been mentioned, turning 30 would not be a good year.....lol.

And of course the classic from our favourite Kung Fu Master David Carradine:

Death Race 2000 - "Where the Traffic is Murder!!!!"
