Solid gold Air King? I'll bet not....

Just a newbie to the forum here and I don't claim to be an expert but this doesn't look right. Aren't there supposed to be markings on the underside of the lugs to show it really is gold?

The crown at 12 is crooked among other issues. I would stay away from this one.

Why do you call the watch an Air King?

It's obviously an Oyster Perpetual and it's described as such.

As to other issues, I really can't speak to those.

looks like an old 1002 in solid gold to me ? what is your concern ? i see a hallmark under the lugs although overpolished, rolex have increased the number of hallmarks from 2 to 3 to all 4 lugs over the years

Oh I freely admit I'm no expert here. I was surprised at the low price and the fact that I've never seen another gold Air King.

I am pretty sure I have seen this watch for sale here on the forum in the past.

I'm always fascinated as to why people post multiple pictures that show nothing of interest...as in 3 side angle views of the watch.

what is that supposed to indicate?

Gold Air Kings

I have heard, and read that Rolex made a small number of Gold Air Kings, for the guys who flew in the Battle of Britain, for which the first Professional watch was named. They do exist, and were at least available from 1959 through 1970. I think one had to prove that they, or a direct relative were on the official list, published by GB. I also think they were charged the same as a stainless model.
