Well the rumor is a new 62mas reissue that is black pvd with a blue dial is happening this year. As an sla017 owner can’t say I’m thrilled if it happens.

I guess in some ways given the direction of Seiko into limited editions this is to be expected.

Are you sure it would it be another SLA017? Given the blue dial rumor, I'd almost lean toward it being an SBP053 with the case coated black.

Is that the SLA035? Black series MM300?

No. That’s the 62mas dolphin. Hasn’t been announced yet.

I’m not sure on anything. Just reporting the rumor.

So this MM300 is nicknamed “dolphin”?

Different things I think.

- The 62MAS, and its reissue the SLA017, have a dolphin engraved on their backs.
- The MM300 (as well as the SLA025 and the original 6159-7001) do not have it. It is not nicknamed "dolphin" either (well, as far as I know).

The rumor is about a new version of the SLA017, with a black PVDed case, and a blue dial. Not about the black series SLA035, which has already been announced.

Too much limited editions. I am definitely on board when it is about (nearly) faithful recreations. But the variations with new colors leave me cold.

I also read about a potential price of $6000 for this new SLA017, which would be insane if it proves true. Well, it would also seem insane to me at $4000.

If that's truly the case then that would be disappointing to see. I'm fine with recreations and enjoy my SLA017 for being just that. But, an exact copy with blue dial and PVD'd case isn't that.

However, it might be a good looking watch on its own. I'll reserve final judgment if it happens — and it might not. Rumors always risk being misinterpreted.

Well that would suck...

The trio was perfect - I hope Seiko doesn't go & mess things up...

Got it. It isnt a reissue if not adheres faithfully or as close to faithfully as possible to the original issue.

It may be a commemorative or inspired piece. Like what they did for the chronographs.

Anyway, let’s what it looks like. Hopefully i wont be tempted. Am happy to stay put with what i have. Am not even planning to get into the new black series.

100% agree. The trilogy was perfect. Hoping Episode I: the phantom MAS isn’t too atrocious.

No problem at all.

Killer choice… I think these two Seiko divers along with the SLA017 are the best in its category after the Submariner.

For those that have the SLA17 and SLA33 how do they compare ?
I have a 17 and am thinking about adding a 33 but not sure it would get that much wear. The 17 does not get that much already but it is a keeper as I find it works well in the summer and at the beach as it is relatively smaller and lighter than the others I have.

Not only should you get a 33, but also a 25.

All three are nice to look at and much nicer to wear. Too bad we only have two wrists. So we can’t wear all simultaneously.

The essence of the SLA017, and the 62 MAS, is the green/grey dial. I doubt this rumored release will have the same charm or nostalgia.

All the recreations are great but I think the 17 is in another league.

Why I really like about the Each of them is that Seiko resisted the temptation to use fake lume and just made a true and pure recreation. Much cooler and more authentic that way.
