White Gold Daytona for White Gold Odysseus?
Currently have 3 chronographs (Ap26401ro, Daytona 116519ln, and VC 5500V Blue dial) in my collection and looking for some diversity. Given the current Daytona prices, I am able to sell it and get on the waitlist for a white gold Odysseus without much additional cost. I do find the white gold Daytona very attractive but can't justify the price given the finishing is rather plain. Been looking at a Lange & Sohne and know that their quality is top notch and I wonder whether I should sell my Daytona to fund the Odysseus?
Would like to know what are your thoughts :) |

I would rather keep what you have and save more money to acquire ALS.

Would love to, but I just acquired the overseas chronograph two months ago and don't want to spend an extra 40k for watches this year, that's why I am thinking about swapping the Daytona for the Odysseus. I love the dial and the day/date function on the Odysseus. The only problem is that I am not sure how the watch looks in real life and unable to try it out in person...

I’d sell the Daytona. There’s no comparing a Rolex to trinity or ALS so to me it’s a no brainer.

Waitlist for Odysseus is guaranteed with a piece?
With Lange, you have to place an order. Double check with your boutique. With Daytona, I will keep it. And order Lange.

With the steel Odysseus, you need to purchase a watch to get on the waitlist.
For the white gold version, there is no need for purchase history, just need to wait for 3-6 months. |

White Gold Daytona for White Gold Odysseus?
Quote:
+1 The ALS Odysseus WG is available with a short wait. Sure it’s an ALS but I wouldn’t lose a Daytona to get one.

Initially was gonna get rid of the rose gold royal oak offshore as I find it wears too large for my wrist, but the resale value is pretty awful which always turn me away from doing it...It is a hard decision

I have a few WG Daytonas and a WG Odysseus
I’d sell the Daytona for a odysseus all day long Don’t get me wrong I love daytonas. But they are a different league The odysseus is so much nicer in person than people realize - you’ll love it |

I would much rather own the Odysseus than a Daytona unless you need a beater in the collection.

I recently tried on the WG Odysseus at a boutique and was very surprised at how nice it was on the wrist. It would be a great addition. However, I’d rather sell the AP for it, especially if you feel it wears a little big. Keep the Daytona.

I wouldn't trade the Daytona away - Especially that one, but that's just me. I am not sure I'd want to move any of those, tbh.
I guess if you HAD to move one though, I'd move the VC with the following reasoning: If you're going to move into something less liquid (i.e., the WG Odysseus) I'd give up my least liquid piece to get it. The Daytona and AP are about as liquid as cash, and at a better/more sustainable price. BTW, I'd try the WG Odysseus before you made any moves. I think it's a nice watch and I love ALS, but I'd rather have what you have. The WG Odysseus dial is insanely gorgeous, but I hate the integrated metal between the lugs, and the rubber strap isn't my favorite.

curious the change in opinion, last year you were posting that it's bland and boring. was it from handling it in person? i guess reading initial responses there were a lot of posts with visceral dislike of the piece and later on the tone completely changed.

Odysseus is beautiful - wears slightly smaller than even my white dial ceramic daytona but the date function wins it hands down for me.

I'd take a breather and enjoy your current collection.
For some reason the Odysseus matte dial and numerals remind me of Oris. I'm a big Lange fan too. Great quality with a very narrow market. Someday if you're bored of the Lange you're going to take an epic eye watering hit.

Alright, I have made my decision and going to sell the Daytona tomorrow. Worn the ROO next to the Daytona, despite a much larger size, it just looks much more premium than the Daytona. Although valuation wise the Daytona is much stronger, I enjoy the artisanship in watchmaking more. Moreover, I only bought the Daytona out of curiosity...Paid the list price last year and now selling at an inflated price doesn't seem like a bad situation after all

Considered the Datograph as well, the fact that it can be bought with a 20% discount vs zero with the Odysseus is very tempting. However, my location is very hot and I can't see myself constantly sweating on the leather strap :(

Where are you seeing a 20% discount on a Datograph? Certainly not new or at retail. In fact, I don't even believe they are discounted this much on the secondary market these days.

It is not from the dealers of course, my uncle own several Lange watches and he is happy to sell me his for the price he paid for, which turns out to be 20%off. The watch is practically new since he keeps it in a box and barely wear it, seems heavy from what I was told. In fact, it was my uncle who inspired me to buy a Lange watch. Ever since I saw him wearing a Lange 1, I just can’t get the brand off my head, it is more memorizing than the Pateks he owns in my opinion. I particularly love the oversized date.

I'm not the biggest daytona fan, but in this case, I would not make this trade. ALS missed on this one IMO.

I’d go for the Lange, but I’d trade one of your other two pieces instead
