Sub date, after 4 weeks

In brief:

1/ Had a DJ 36mm TT for 15 years.
2/ Caught the Big Sports Watch bug from my son.
3/ Chased GMTs and Subs for a while.
4/ Bought 1996 Sub date 16610 four weeks ago.
5/ Didn't wear DJ for 3 weeks, then tried it and it looked too small. Good.
6/ Traded now useless DJ against new DJ31 for my wife 2 weeks ago.
7/ Tried the new DJ36 at the time out of interest. Too small. Good.
8/ Tried new DJ41 as well. Hmmm... that's a better size!
9/ Not in love with Sub. Bland. No gold. No "bling". I'm not a diver. Oyster marks easily. Too delicate. DJ with TT jubilee and fluted bezel far more hardy.
10/ Went back to AD to try DJ41 again.
11/ Phoned AD to hold DJ41 for me until Thursday.
12/ Will trade Sub against DJ41. Sub wasn't the one for me after all.

Moral: Don't go chasing rainbows (no, not Zenith silly!). If you're used to seeing one watch on your wrist for years, be careful what you change to. Your mind's eye may like the different look, you may not.

I’d say stick with sub because it’s more versatile than people realize. If you want gold, may I suggest the blue dial sub.

Recently got a BLNR, for the last 3 years I've been wearing a 36mm DJ with jubilee & fluted bezel.

I can wholeheartedly relate to what your saying. Two completely different watches.

I kind of miss the bling/dressiness my DJ bought to the table, what a beautiful watch! But as my only Rolex, my daily, I'd say the GMT is more versatile.

I researched a lot before deciding on and buying my DJ 41 and have been very happy with it for the past 4 years. I think you will love it!

How more versatile ? I'm guessing he's a grown man that can wear any watch with any thing, anytime he pleases. And he's found a watch he likes. Or, would he be better dropping 24 grand on a watch that you'd like, instead ?

Enjoy your DJ, happy you found something that sings to you !

I hate having this feeling about the Rolexes I’ve purchased. The problem is that they are all so awesome...wish I could keep all at the same time. Thankfully there’s a market for Pre-Owned where we can essentially keep on trading. Thanks

Can’t you keep both?
I’ve completed my consolidation (for now, heh) with a blue roman 116234 and a 114060; with those two and my beater GShock I feel like I’ve got all my bases covered. I wouldn’t be surprised if you get another DJ/DD down the road!

What a great post

That situation would sound ridiculous to a normal person. To a watch lover, like most of us here, we could see that happening to us. Good for you for acting on it.

Milgauss was my entry into Rolex. Love the watch but was always looking towards others like the sub. Window shopping, online searching, scouring over classifieds on TRF........and no trigger, no trigger, no trigger. Finally, walked into an AD, they had the BLNR in stock (shocker!!) and the trigger was pulled. LOVE my new watch!!! Still love the Milgauss but the BLNR just makes me smile. It’s all a process and I love your story. ENJOY your new DJ.......
