Which Speedmaster, suggestions?

Hello,

I've been looking for the right speedmaster for quite some time. Because of my small wrist, about 6.5 inches, I am leaning toward the Speedmaster 38mm. Does anyone have suggestions of other speedmasters that are on the smaller side that I should consider? Has anyone had the opportunity to see the Speedmaster "57"? If so what are your opinions? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Both the FOIS (39.5mm) and Professional (42mm) variants wear well for small wrists (I got a 6.375") wrist...it's not the same as Rolex sizing with better fitting lug contours. I suggest trying these variants in store to get a more classic speedy. Both the professional/FOIS wear similarly...size discrepancy comes from the crown guards.

I have a 6.5” wrist too and the regular speedy at 42mm is too big for me so I went for the ‘57 at 38.6mm which is perfect.

^ 57 on the leather strap looks great. As said above the Speedy moonwatch 42mm wears well a seems smaller than other 42mm watches. I'd try a moon watch and if you can try on a FOIS or 57 for comparison. They are all great watches, take your time trying them all

I've worn a couple of the new coaxial 38mm speedmasters, and while they actually feel great, I just can't get past the looks.

None of them look like a speedmaster in person, because they are all a little too ornate. The black one with round subdials (324.30.38.50.01.001) is close, but the hands being white gold just looks wrong, and the indentations on the outer edge of the bezel are just... Too much jewelry, and not enough tool watch.

The FOIS is an excellent choice, and any handwound moonwatch wears small as noted...

If you get a SpeedMaster you need to get Manual Wind of course .. not automatic.

The FOIS and MOTM have exact same dial and bezel so the are both really 39.7 mm watches ... The MOTM has crown guards so it is given the larger measurement.

I just bought a MOTM on Leather strap .. I would have gotten the FOIS but I wanted Hesalite and the nice clasp on the MOTM

You can find a Speedmaster Reduced with Box and Papers for a pretty reasonable price. Both the hesalite ones and the new saphire crystal versions. I recently picked one up for $2000, new old stock - box and papers (pre 2006 hesalite model of course).

I too have smaller wrists and simply cannot wear anything larger than 40mm unfortunately. It's just something I've come to terms with.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will try to find some of the watches you suggested to try on in my area. One that does interest me is the Speedmaster "57" which measures 38.6 mm. Hopefully, I can find one to try on because one of my problems are usually the lugs. If the face is to large the lugs tend to extend over my wrist, which I really do not care for. Once again thank you all and I continue to appreciate all of your suggestions.

Speedy Tuesday

Those are the winners for me, 6.5 checking in. As for the ST or standard 42 pro that wears on th marge size for my wrist but at th acceptable max imho. It’s “my panerai”

The 60th anniversary watch is a fantastic Speedmaster. Or go with the pro, whatever the current ref. is. Best bet is finding one several years old in great shape for 2 to 3k usd.

Do you mind sharing in a direct message where you found such a great deal on the Speedmaster professional?

Just chiming in here because I see the discrepancy: he refers to the "Speedmaster Reduced", which is the name of a model that's different than the Speedmaster Professional. It does trade at prices below those of the Speedmaster Professional.

I have about a 6.5 inch wrist as well and and had the same concern. I tried on a Speedmast Pro and it actually wears about the same as my 2001 Submariner. I was thinking about the 57 Triology, but ended up buying a 1967 321 Cal Speedy w/ the DON bezel. Could not be happier. I like the vintage look and patina vs. the faux patina look. I will try to upload a photo.

Help me understand the hesalite vs sapphire, please. Or perhaps the pros and cons of each.

Moon watch works fine on 6.5" wrist. You got the "correct" movement that needs manual winding, the "correct" crystal that scratches (and polished) easily, the "correct" case back that has addition magnetic protection. :)
