Ti44 Chronograph function
Just out of curiosity; is it ok to keep the chronograph seconds running constantly on 44mm ROO? Is there any harm of doing that in the long term?

No harm but I don't keep mine running all the time, maybe the odd week here and there.

Why would you even do that?
A chronograph is a feature that serves a specific function, as and when required. |

Why would you spend X on an mechanical watch when a quartz is more accurate at a fraction of the cost? Must admit I quite often have the chrono running for no reason other then to admire it! |

Yes, we can indeed – but then I’d equate the notion of doing so, for no proper reason, to that of turning the windscreen wipers on in dry weather.

I’m really not seeing the correlation between the two. |

Nothing to be confused about! I wasn’t comparing functions or technology, sometimes we do things based on heart and emotion rather then logic |

I tend to not like my chronograph engaged when im not using it, but thats preference, not fear of it wearing out.

Also much easier to see the large seconds hand, the small one can easily get obscured by the other hands.

Some great analogy here !!
I admire mine on occasion , you can do it ... why not !! I tend to time the most absurd things though. How long it takes someone to get to a door, random people phone conversations , length of time the GF is bitching at me. I guess in the long term there may be some further wear to certain parts in the movement ? Would make sense .... Wear it and enjoy is my thinking !! Cheers P.S ~ when timing the wife or GF don't tell them how long they yelled for. Or be ready to reset and start the function again quick :) |

Personally I don’t like the chronograph engaged all the time, also it shortens the power reserve. I prefer to see the large seconds hand fixed at 12.
If you buy a chronograph and want the large seconds hand sweeping round all the time that’s fine, it’s your watch therefore your choice. My first Chrono was a Daytona and I used to have that running all the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Plenty of things in this world that were built for function specific jobs yet we use them all quite frequently and not as intended. But as to the OP, I do believe there would be some kind of wear running the chrono continuously, even if not significantly detrimental |

Dont really see the point of leaving it running. Its kind of like the bezel on a dive watch. when not in use mine is always at 12 o'clock.

The only downside I can see to running the chrono full time is wear and tear on the chrono related mechanics. The main gear train of the watch is obviously designed to run constantly 24/7 for years. I don't know if the chrono parts were designed with that same goal in mind. |
