Any tips on handling a RO thats been in a safe for over a year?
So I have a Selfwinding RO that's been sitting in a safe for over a year and i'm planning on taking it for a spin. Am I ok to wind it right away and wear it?
Thanks in advance! |

You’re going to want to rub it with some 80 grit sandpaper to warm it up

Actually I’ve read that a microwave is not the best idea. Best to broil in the oven at 400 degrees for 15-20 minuets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I know it's a matter of contention in the watch community and I've heard good arguments for both methods, but it makes sense to me that the microwave warms up the oils and seals from the inside outward. I've found that the 'popcorn' setting gives me just the right effect so you don't have to watch the timer or mess with a thermometer.

Alright boys, the microwave did the trick, warmed up the juices and had it flowing real nice. The sandpaper gave it this real delicious post apocalyptic look that made all my buddies super jealous!

I’ve read that the radiation from the microwave can get absorbed by the mainspring and released into the body over time. That’s why I prefer the broiler! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Did you beat/pound it first? If not you might be causing damage. Immediately remove from your wrist and slam on the nearest tile floor to give it the jumpstart it needs.

That was going to be my first recommendation. Too much time in the safe = fresh start.
Hope you are enjoying it on the wrist! |
