Is it possible that there will not be a reference number on the case.

Thank you in advance.
Can there be a genuine rolex without a reference number on the case?

The reference number should be on the inside of the lugs at 12:00.
The serial number should be on the 6:00 either on the inside of the lugs or on the rehaut for the newer ones.

I believe in the late 50s it would be between the lugs. Prior to that it would be on the case back

I have a couple of Rolexes from the teens with no reference number.
And few, I believe from the 40's with the serial number and reference number on the back.
Then there are some watches in between these two periods as well as some non oyster dress watches from the 50's and 60's and possibly newer that just have the numbers stamped on the inside of the back.

So the only way to make sure it's the real deal is to open the case .

I have a Rolex Oyster (34 mm, manual) from 1958 with NO model number between the lugs and NO model number on the inside of the case back. serial is present, but absolutely no model number - if I have time in Switzerland, I'll stop by at Rolex to ask them about it.

My friend had a gold one (1950s date 34mm) with the number on the caseback and not between the lugs and 'Brevet' on the crown

just to be clear, the picture shows a 36mm datejust, while the post mentions 34mm date - wrong picture or wrong description?

Can we see a detailed photo of area between the lugs where the model number should be, as well as a picture of the inside of the case back?
