An American sucess story....with a happy ending

My wife's sister had three beauty shops in Monterrey MX and her husband sold Insurance....they were middle class living in burbs in a 3-2-2 house with 2 kids.
Two years ago she was approached by a drug cartel telling her she had to pay 20 percent of profits to them or else. She and her husband fled to Houston with zero and had to leave everything behind in Mexico......better than being dead.
She has opened a shop her and her husband got license to sell Ins here and they just bought a new house....better yet they paid me back also.
She tells us horror stories of what goes on back in
Mexico and knows of a man killed by the cartels. I will goto Mexico D.F. and feel somewhat safe....to see some of her family but thats it....no way i would travel to Monterrey now.

Congrats to your S-I-L.

On the other points, I take no sides, it's really a North American tragedy.

Demand for illegal drugs in the US has created negative impacts elsewhere - but we all share the same "North American Continent". Cleaning up that overall neighborhood is going to take unparalleled cooperation.

That's very sad and unfortunate but it appears to have a happy ending. Hopefully everything continues to work out.

FYI, my grandparents fled to US from Poland ahead of Germany takeover. Work out well for them and offsprings....

I was prolly imprecise when saying the neighborhood Greg. I mean the whole of NA. The demand side in USA first and foremost. Then that throttles the supply side in other areas.

I don't think we in US can be sending in troops to solve the problem.

Anyway just wanted to clarify.

There aren't enough SEALS to do squat.

Now with the Marines, you might get somewhere, but really Mexico needs to clean up their own act, regardless of drug demands north of the border.

They need to take out all at the same time so getting rid of a few high ups in one cartel somebody else just takes over.....never ending cycle.
I really think its to corrupt and in some of these border towns the cartels are the de facto law now....its not winnable.....or so her sister says.

Well SEAL's and Marines don't really have jurisdiction on Mexican soil anyways.

It's Mexico's problem. Hopefully they will be able to handle it, surely but slowly.

Happy that your family has had a happy ending Greg. This is a problem with no end in sight I'm sorry to say.

I am a member of this organization.

Worth a look.

http://www.leap.cc/

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. The war on drugs as alcohol prohibition once did has only created violent criminal gangs that get wealthy while addicts and recreational users get jailed and branded for life.

Drug abuse is a medical issue not a criminal one. Take the drugs and the profits out of the hands of killers. Treat those that need help. You can never arrest your way out of a drug problem. Enormous waste of taxpayer resources and police officer manpower.

Nice to hear things ultimately ended up well for them Greg. Sad that I feel more safe and secure in Colombia than Mexico, these days.....

Jurisdiction? Permission?

You would be amazed where elite troops are being send off to and do "work". No one needs to know and no reports or mission information is/are made.
