I actually posted to it back in 2017, but forgot about it until you mentioned it ,

Very interesting thread, thank you for posting all of the information. Just curious for clarification from those in the know, earlier in the thread the connotation was you had to be invited by a Mason to join. Several links that were posted from what looks like official regulations stated that you have to petition, almost like anyone can walk up and request an application.

I ask because a long time ago I helped a guy out of a tight spot. To make it short, it was obvious that we were from very different backgrounds but he needed help and I gave it because he needed it pretty badly. The gentleman asked me if I was a Mason, and I replied no. He asked if I wanted to be and told me he would sponsor me. The Masons always held a certain mystique to me so I called a family member who I know was involved and was told it was a good thing to be invited. Again, just like other non-members, just curious.

I guess it was the jewellery/ring thread that brought this back.

Frankly I'm doing neither so I can't answer the question. I do know that there was no issue in my joining the Knights with my having been a Mason.

On another hand, I've got an old friend who's seemingly turned delusional; he believes his brother is in on it. I've communicated with his brother who is very concerned as well. He's complaining about the Slow Dagger being applied to him in his Connecticut community. I did the smallest amount of research on this phenomena and I'm not certain it's real. Anyone?

In general, one must inquire, but as with all things, change happens. I have read that some regions do “selectively” recruit.

In my jurisdiction you aren’t invited, here’s a link to your jurisdiction if you’d like more information that’s the place to start. You could also pm anyone in this thread and I guarantee you will be helped or pointed in the right direction. Start with the discover masonry tab.

In the U.K., it used to be the case that you would be invited to become a member.

But now with Freemasonry becoming more open and approachable, the UGLE website has a section on becoming a member, so individuals can apply and be pointed to a Lodge in their area.

I've always been interested in the Masons and thought about joining, but haven't ever known any in person (that made it known anyway) and I'm hesitant to just walk up to a lodge and try to join off the street.

I'm also curious about the higher power requirement and what that really means in a practical sense

Don’t be too concerned about the higher power, you are asked if you believe in a supreme being, you don’t have to elaborate.

If you are interested them make the approach, you will be made welcome, just remember as with most things, you only get out what you put in.

I was installed master of the other lodge I belong to tonight.
Originally I never planned to join the officer line of this lodge but that's just how it goes sometimes.
Here's hoping we have a productive year where we can continue to meet in person and do good works.

You don't have to wear those big buffalo hats with the horns on them do you.

Oh wait.....I might have confused you with that other group.

Good luck.

I always worry that the amount of drinking that goes on at those meetings, people are constantly getting gored and losing an eye or something.

But maybe that's why I confuse your group with the Masonic one-eye.

Im not a Mason, but my father was for decades. He was a former Worshipful Master of his lodge. He passed away on 4 June and the lodge did a burial tribute for him with the lambskin cloth, pieces of evergreen, and poem and prayer. It was a nice send off.

Anyone here know lodges in San Francisco with young’ish people or at least a good amount of young people? Having a hard time getting through to lodges. The one I was referred to in San Bruno was very very old. I’m interested in becoming a mason but want a lodge that’s a great fit.

Just discovered this artist with masonic works. I have no affiliation, just thought his stuff was pretty cool.
