The smoke is probably the new marijuana app.

Inhale and enjoy.

I'm guessing you just downloaded basic 16 instead of the the enhanced version.

I'm with you. I was into phone tech when it was cutting edge. Both iPhone and android.

Every new phone was light years in to the future......then they both reached critical mass and each new phone was nothing more than last years model with a new case/design/colour.

I just upgraded a phone I'd been using for 7 years, and I barely see an improvement. I can edit 4k video on the phone, which is nice (the old phone struggled at 1080p), otherwise what did I just buy? A toaster?

7 years got me more memory and a more competent processor. Little more (the camera is much better to be honest, but not a big deal for me, I use actual cameras for that).

Folding tech is the new cutting edge. But it's a long way off being usable yet.

I got my 14 pro max up and running. No issues to report so far. It’s definitely a massive improvement over the iPhone X I had previously.

Here is a pretty good comparison article on the various models of the 14 vs 13 models.

New notification setup is horrible and the battery meter % is misleading since it shows a full battery icon when you have 23% of battery.

For people who are poor -- or maybe not poor but just bought into the marketing -- it's a major status symbol that they finance over time, cannot easily replace, and may be very proud of.

I thought it was good and my battery meter icon is fine

Battery icon shows as full only if you select to also show the battery %. Otherwise the battery icon shrinks to show you the approximate life left in it.

Exactly!

My 14 Pro Max has been great so far, a big step up from my XS Max. Very happy and witing for some sunny weather to try out the new camera

Ditto! I was into smart phones when the technology was still felt as 'new' (to me at least). I recall getting excited about the iPhone 5 back in 2013. Now, I do not notice considerable improvements to warrant the upgrade.
