Wrong on both counts, my friend. Sub is still up for sale and that SEIKO is not my baby....just a picture I got from somewhere else and thought I'd share with all of you!!

There was a period of time when I was considering this 'uber' Seiko. After some mental acrobatics, I came to the conclusion that my money was better spent on a Submariner. Considering they are both rated to 300m, the Sub is a much more elegant package. The Seiko is available out of Singapore for $1850US. If I were looking for the ultimate tank, I'd just pony up and get a Seadweller. It is a looker though...

JJ, thanks for posting a photo of the SBDX001. I can assure you its a superb timepiece. You have to handle and wear one to fully appreciate it. I bought mine NIB from a gentleman (and AD) in Oita, Japan who runs a brick and mortar store as well as selling on the web.
The JDM watches (Japan Domestic Market) are the finest Seiko makes. Many of those compare favorably with Europe's best. Especially the Grand Seikos and Credors.

I had one for a while. Paid $1300. Quality and performance wise, it will give the Sub a run for it's money any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

That being said, I sold it when I picked up a few vintage Seiko divers instead.

The Seiko MarineMaster is an awesome watch and serious diver.

Sold it for what I paid for it. They hold their value pretty well.

I'm a big fan of these high end Seikos. Having lived in Japan I know that the Grand Seikos are up these with the best from Switzerland. Their divers are highly regarded by guys who actually dive deep, and their recent international introduction of the Spring Drive will, for the first time, expose their best to the world. It's a horological marvel.

It is like comparing a BMW engine to a marvellous Japanese engine. I have driven both, but there is frankly nothing more elegant that the absolute silence of a Lexus in neutral with the engine on. For all the bravado of "German engineering" and "German road cars" which have cost me lots in the past, I am a fan of the peerlessness and sheer elegance of Japanese engineering. And so, the point is that sometimes MORE IS LESS.

We all love the prestige factor of our Rolexes, but damn this Japanese watch is an awesome stud. It is the Johnny Wad of divers....LOL
