Seiko today and years past 60s 70s with the Seiko Grand were making some of the most accurate and reliable mechanical movements known to man.And IMHO were superior to many of the swiss in-house movements.

Well myself have been looking for a late 60s early 70s Seiko Grand for a few years now,missed one while in Singapore 2002.And yes there own test to a very much higher standard than the Swiss COSC.


But there is a misunderstanding in some, that people assume Seiko equals affordable/cheap. Most are undoubtedly referring to Seiko's normally found on the street in Europe and the Americas, and they are definitely a good, fantastic, value for the money. But you can also get vintage and new high end Seiko's, which, until the advent of the Internet, were relatively unknown outside of Japan. And a few other far east Asian countries (Taiwan, HK, Singapore ETC.) "King Seiko","Grand Seiko", and "Seiko Credor", you will find in these watches that, movement and case finish wise, easily compete with the best of mass produced swiss watches, i.e. Omega, Rolex, etc. As for style… well, that is in the eye of the beholder. At best they can be considered very conservative. But it really depends which movements,and watches you are comparing to. One true thing the Swiss, had to abandon the yearly chronometer competitions in the late 60s early 70s as the Japanese started to wipe the floor with them,they were that good.What this all boils down to is: Seiko makes some truly outstanding products, and some value for money ones, just like many other companies. If you want to buy one, you should, by all means do it. Because IMHO their bang-for-the-pound-factor is bloody amazing, at both ends of the spectrum.

But seriously, I am debating if I should try to sign up for one anyway, as far as I can tell, there is no guarantee that I will be getting one anyway and until they counter offer me, I don't need to put up any deposit, just wondering how the resell value on these will be, that and I will need someone in Japan to receive the watch for me so I can pick it up myself and not have to get hit with the import tax.

As far as I can tell, there is no guarantee that I will get one, looks like its up to seiko now.

Sounds great and I love Seiko.
Didn't the Spring Drive win TZ's watch of the year last year?
If I remember correctly it beat out a few Patek's and a Vacheron just to name a few.
Let us know if Seiko decides that you are one of the "chosen ones".

I suspect its just some marketing gimmick and they will fulfill all the orders. I mean I will probably be more interested in the watch if I get rejected. We'll see what happens.

The web site never mentioned anything about limited amounts being produced.
