[QUOTE=Glosstritium;9631210]Been with me and the family from day one 35 years ago, bought at a Rolex dealer in 1984 reference 16800 with the gloss dial... All original and movement serviced only twice at a family friend who is a watchmaker and never was sent to Rolex.. Serviced in 94 and again Sept 2018.. Running +.89 seconds a day...
I'm a bit confused. Is "never was sent to Rolex" a good thing? Are they not a good bet for service on their own watches? Mike Taglieri |

It's not really a good or bad thing, but RSCs are known for swapping out hands/dials/inserts on old watches. So a watch that's never been to an RSC should be more likely to have it's original parts.

Keep wearing it, servicing it and enjoying it! Love seeing these watches with wear and tear on them.

Beautiful. Such a handsome watch and a great daily. Keep it in the family and look forward to another 35 (and far more) years.

What is your bracelet like? Any stretch or link wear? I am just curious as I have come across rolex subs which are considerably newer than yours with heavily worn bracelets.

Very minimal stretch... The trick is I wear it snug and not loose like alot of people, meaning people that like it to swing side to side is the bracelets with alot of wear and I clean it with soap every weekend

Thanks for the tips! I do get the impression it is those hollow centre links and trapped grime that seem to do all the damage. I clean mine each weekend too. Cheers

FWIW, mine has a bit of stretch to the bracelet, but it's a younger version at only 32 years old ;) I'm not exactly sure how to measure it but occasionally I'll hold it up to compare to some photos I see and while there's obviously some sag, it's not too bad overall.
Other than it having been sent in for a service once in it's lifetime, I can't recall a period when it wasn't on my wrist since I bought it new...and like the OP I wear it on the tighter side vs. loose. |
