Should I take the hit

It's been a while but I have that itch that can only be scratched one way....a new watch! I've had my beautiful two tone for years now and love it. I purchased a Panerai 389 almost two years ago and do not get to wear it as often as I'd like given it's size and it's has fallen out of favor. Would love to get into a BLNR and/or Explorer II.

Panerai do not retain their value as well as Rolex and although I did well with the Panerai purchase i would still be taking a couple grand hit.

Do I take the hit and make up the difference and buy a new Rolex?

Yes, imo the hit will only get bigger each year

Your right unfortunately they don't retain. I could be wrong but I feel like they are at an all-time low right now. I would take the hit and got for the BLNR. But that's just me. Good luck!

Yep. That's the problem with trendy brands. The fall can come hard and quick.

Make your move now OP. I'd try to 'flip' it here or contact some of the more established sellers to get trade value.

Yes, that's what I did too. It'll just get worse. For me, the quality and reliability was just not there given the price point.

Panerais unfortunately suffer from the fact that those crown guards are hideously ugly.

That will not go away.

Yes. $20 is worth more to me than a watch I don't wear. Don't fall into the sunk cost fallacy.

Do it. But only for the Blnr. The Exp 2 doesn't hold value well.

Sell while you still can..

389 is still a popular model, but the market on Pam overall is very very soft

I love reading crap like this from the haters who clearly know nothing about the brand.

Panerai has been around since 1860, which is about 45 years longer than Rolex, so it's hardly a 'trendy' brand.

Ditto..... we all buy "what we like" (I dumped my Daytona for two Panerai).... at the end of the day "they're just watches after all"...

cheers

Not to go against the mainstream here, but hardly a good time to sell a PAM now. Then again, not sure it's ever been a good time to sell a submersible that is not made of bronze...

In the end, watches are not a rational matter, so I'd say follow the emotional call if the hit doesn't hurt you where it shouldn't.

Probably about 3k if I sell if it to someone who has to resell it. Not ideal obviously but I don't get the wear out of it.

After some research I think about 3k which seems crazy but that's selling to someone to has to make a buck on it.

Try private sale first to minimize the loss, but it's definitely move it on if not worn. No need to sit on it waiting for a recovery in value that may never come
