This is wrong.

What do the experts think? Do I have to buy a Hulk?
With all due respect to your clothing consultant, but that's nuts, except of course, if you're just looking for a good excuse to buy an 116610LV.

Black does go with anything, which is one reason I always wear black.

It just makes my color-impaired life a little bit easier.

As far as it doesn't clash, it's fine

The answer is: yes! You need to buy the hulk!
Clothing be damned.

I try to match, basically I like contrast (lighter watch with darker clothes and vise versa). I recall reading that the strap on the watch should be same general color as the belt (which in turn should be same general color as the shoes, at least when you're dressing up :) ), so it depends upon the shoes you were wearing. If brown, yeah, the IWC probably didn't go so well due to the strap, you could've pulled off a black faced watch on a band though...

I'm pretty much a jeans, hiking boots and sweatshirt kind of guy and only occasionally have to wear business attire. When I wear a suit, the only distinction I make is to use a leather strap on the watch instead of Everest rubber.

Sorry all, but it isn't the black dial that is the potential violation. If you were wearing brown belt and or shoes, she's got a point.

Now of course you can wear anything you want but a black gator leather strap isn't something I'd wear with anything except black belt and footwear. Trying to be well put together shouldn't be seen as "giving in to arbitrary rules", its just about doing something well.

"Goes with" doesn't mean it has to "match". You don't need or even want a green watch with a green shirt. It's about tones, textures, degree of formality and things like that.

Just stick to bracelets if you don't want to put any effort in.

just make sure it doesn't match too much! had a miami edition iwc big pilot perpetual (black dial, yellow hands/markers/numerals) with a batman t-shirt and got a little heat for being *too* "matchy-matchy"!

Clothing consultants shouldn’t really exist imho. Wear whatever watch you want. Clothes and watch dont need to match.
