Scratch on brand new sub clasp

I just got my first Rolex which is a Submariner Date! I wore it for the first time this past weekend and got a pretty noticeable scratch on the clasp but I don't remember hitting anything. I keep telling myself that it'll get scratched anyways and I don't care but this is quite big and not the usual hairline scratches you see.

Is there an easy way to get rid of this scratch? I was told to use a Cape Cod polish rag but then read that since the clasp is brushed this would remove the brushed finish. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Also, the AD offered a warranty for 3 years for $800 to cover any kind of damage or buffing. Is this worth it?

I’d say leave it , or wait till service time it won’t be your last mark if worn regularly. Enjoy it

Great watch. Congrats! Scratches suck but it’s going to happen quite a bit, especially on the clasp. I would leave it and have the bracelet touched up at the time of service. If it really bothers you, most authorized dealers can help get it out. May ruin the consistency of the brush work which is why it’s best to leave it until it’s sent in for service

OP, let me save you and the board some time. Predicted answers:

1. Live with it. You’re OCD.
2. Scratches are part of the character of the watch. Live with it
3. Every scratch is a precious memory you should treasure.
4. Wait until it needs a service then deal with it.
5. You’re an obsessive Rolex fanboy who is a superficial person.

There! That should about cover it.

The REAL answer is...take it into your AD for a quick buffing on the clasp only. I would never just live with a scratch like that on my new Rolex!

Congrats on the watch! That scratch will be the first of many. Suggest accepting it for now and when serviced you can get it fixed up.

They would bother me to no end, would bring it to RSC for quick polish 110%.

It's not that bad of a scratch. Will be virtually imperceptible at normal viewing distances.

I'd leave it. You're going to scratch it up even more so wear the hell out of it and enjoy it.

Very very very fine sandpaper brushed in the proper direction will take care of it I have had great success doing this

If you eventually can't stand to look at the scratch, use Scotch-Brite 7447, Type A, very fine (a purple colored hand pad) on the brushed sections of the bracelet. Or, if you PM me I can mail you a sheet of the stuff. I use it very gently and only in the direction that the clasp is already brushed. I don't use it very often.

Do NOT try to buff it out yourself. Either leave it be - it is not that bad - or let an AD buff it out.

Leave it. The clasp is the last place you can possible keep clean..if you wear it.

If you fix it, you'll have another scratch immediately.

I’d say leave it, unless you’re ok with it never quite matching or have brushed a lot of watches it will never match 100% and chances are you’ll scratch it again

Thanks everyone, will leave it. Needed a place to vent! Almost got a scotch guard pad to it as I read but I know I will mess it up. The first one always hurts but more scratches the merrier right? Added a edit in original post, anyone do extra warranties from the AD? They offered for $800 to cover things like this.

I’ve had mine about six years and feel like I wear it carefully. Mostly office environment. They’ll blend. :-)

Exact same thing happened to my CHNR - first time I wore it! I buffed it out slightly just enough to make it barely noticeable and decided to to use 3M tape protect the clasp - at least for the first couple weeks of ownership.

To me, that's a bad deal. $800 is a RSC service which will include refinishing...and you won't need that for years to come (hopefully).

Ah is that what a RSC service costs? Was always wondering what that would be. He mentioned that the service would cover any types of damage internal and external except for theft.

Skip the warranty and as others, leave it. It'll look like an NHL rink with 5 seconds left on the clock in no time.
