Rolex 16710 GMT

Hi. I’m currently considering pulling the trigger on a Rolex GMT Master II 16710 with a black bezel. The plan once the purchase is done is to send it to RSC to get it clean and making sure the mechanics are working fine. Probably purchase the 3 bezels as well to switch things from time to time. Just wondering what would you guys think, whether is now the time to buy or should I wait a while more? I like the GMT and DavidSW has one available which kinda fits my price range so I’m quite close to buying it just want some second opinion before going ahead. Thanks

I just picked one up. Going through previous c24 convos I could have had a few for half the price 2 years ago.

That’s great! What was your thought process before you ultimately decided to pull the trigger?

I like the 16710 in terms of its versatility. The bezel can be swapped with 3 colours and its bracelet can be swapped to jubilee or kept on oyster. The case is also smaller compared to the new 126710, has a more classical feel to it. The main thing I’m worried about is I don’t want to be the moron paying 12k now and 2 years later I can get it at 8k USD. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not selling my watches or flipping it. But the thought of paying 12k now and if it’s available at 8k later I’m gonna be pretty disappointed.

GMT 16710 prices have doubled in the past few years, they have never gone down.

Do what you think is right for you.

Its a great watch, but no one can predict the future prices. I bought mine 2 1/2 years ago to compliment my 14060.

DavidSW is fabulous. You can't go wrong there.

Doubtful they will. They're going up almost weekly.

anything COULD happen - you might see steel daytonas sitting in AD windows but i doubt it

i think it is like the stock market - used rolex prices can go up as well as down but you look at the market trend over a 5 or 10 year period and if you do i dont think the value the value of a good 16710 is likely to drop 50% any time soon

and if it does it would be a general market trend for all assets as the 16710 is not going to go out of fashion as they are not making any more. if anything there are likely to be less on the market as serious collectors buy them

your money is not safe in any watch but i think a good one is one of the safer bets

i bought my 2007 coke 16710 in 2015 and regretted bitterly that i had waited 2 years too long to pull the trigger and the price had "shot up" from £3000 to £4500 in that time but decided the days of the full set pristine 16710 for £3000 had gone forever and i had better buy now before they go up more

5 years later the £4500 spend looks like my best investment decision ever which is all very pleasant but irrelevant as i wont be selling it

i did the same thing with buying a 16570 explorer 2 - delayed and just spent £7000 to buy a 2011 full set mint just serviced black dial example

i now want a mint late 14060 full set sub and guess what is happening to the price of those so planning to find one of those late this year

my view is the 5 digit references have risen in price and will do so and if you wait 2 years for the price to drop you will wish you had spent the $12k AND you will have enjoyed one of rolex's best ever references for 2 years

It's a good watch, just that you can't predict what the price would be later in the future.

I just pulled the trigger about a week ago on the 16710. I don't regret it a bit, although wish I would've a year or two ago instead of trying to wait on the 126710BLRO from an AD.

As OP and others mentioned, the versatility is what makes it even more special. Mine is a 16710N black bezel but also bundled a new Pepsi bezel with it. Now I just need the Coke! A few days after purchase I found a lightly used 62510h jubilee bracelet for a decent price and grabbed it. I love it on the oyster but the jubilee is another level!

So glad I made the move. You won't regret it

This model just goes up and up in value. Not my favorite model but so many others love it, it seems like a safe investment if there was one.

Not likely the 16710 will go down in value.
In the world of Rolex, the 16710 stands alone in terms of end user versatility.
You can bet Rolex will never let that happen again.
To get 3 bezel colors they want you to now buy 3 watches!

I have the Z series 16710 and "only" 2 bezels but I'm stuck in coke mode!! It looks too good to "play" with! Now I'm thinking I need another one!?!

If it comes down to 8k from the same seller in a few years, then rest assured all assets wouldve also seen a similar drop. Atm the only thing you may need to consider is if its worth paying 12k from a Ts or spend more time searching for a good example at a lower rate from a non TS.

You buy something because you like it if you have got the money now then buy it,you can never second guess what something might be worth years down the line.I love my 16710 coke and it’s the one watch that will always be in my collection

Definitely buy it in my opinion as it is such a great reference for reasons already mentioned.

I’ve been considering buying a 16710 for a little while and was wondering if there were any recommended places to read/look for a good idea of what to really be aware of to ensure you’re paying a “fair” price. I guess I’m not sure of all the potential issues/value modifiers on these.

It’s a beautiful reference and arguably the most diverse Rolex made. If it’s in your range I’d jump on it.

Thanks guys for the reply. Hopefully I can bank wire to David next week and start the process of acquiring one. Fingers crossed everything will be alright. It’s my first watch purchase from a non AD so I am a bit apprehensive. Saw a few nice examples like one from Watchbox and another from The Watch Club but I have been hearing that DavidSW has a good reputation that’s why I am leaning towards buying from him. We will see how it goes but yeah thanks for the input.

I’d buy now!
I was in the same boat a couple of years ago and kept waiting for prices to settle down or go down a bit but it kept going up. I ended up buying mine a year ago for about 20% more than when I first started looking. Now it’s another 10-15% higher!

The 16710 is one of the most sought after models and I don’t foresee it ever going down, it might plateau For a while before it takes off again

I’d say if you find one in a good/mint condition, I’d jump on it as those keep getting Harder and harder to find. Waiting to save $500 or $1000 in a year or two (which most likely won’t happen) might make you miss the opportunity of picking a good condition example
