Day-date 40 bundling

Hi everyone,

I am planning to purchase a Day-date 40 in everose with chocolate or olive dial to celebrate a career milestone.

I have been in contact with my regular AD and they are unable to offer any discounts on this piece. However they would be able to pair up a BLNR immediately if pulled the trigger. I asked if they could swing a steel Daytona instead and the answer was 'definitely no', however a BLRO or 126610LV could be possible but I'd have to wait a few months.

My question is, is this bundling up a BLNR a good deal with a DD40 or should I be aiming for something more difficult to get such as a Daytona or BLRO? Would also be interested in what you guys have managed to obtain with your DD purchases.

Thanks in advance!

I didn't do a bundle per se, but I was offered a BLRO (without asking) once I purchased my DD40 (18% off, no tax) so I certainly wasn't going to pass up on that offer.

Bundling offer like this is not unusual, I was told by an AD in SF that I can have a Pepsi SS in 3 months if I purchased the full RG Root Beer at retail. I do have previous purchase history going back 10 years (but peanuts compared to other big ballers in the Bay Area). I was offered a preowned same Root Beer at $9K USD off.

When you add the street value of the two watches together - it's almost the same (except with AD I have to pay taxes at $4K+).

Man I remember in 2017 I tried on a Rolex DD 40 YG Champagne dial with baguette hour markers, the AD offered 25% off and 4 years interest free finance those were the days!

1) congrats! The RG DD is on my list. Hopefully a purchase I plan on making next year. I personally think the Olive dial on the RG DD 40 is absolutely stunning. Those colors were made for each other.
2) since you're already set on purchasing the DD, you should only propose a bundle on a second watch that you want to own. If you don't want a BLNR and there is another model that interests you, suggest that.

At the time this combination was presented it could be they had both pieces and would sell the together. If you hesitate there may be nothing to bundle and you will be waiting for who knows how long. If they have two watches I would take it. Depends on your market but buying a DD doesn't always make steel pieces appear. So, yes I would take that combination, as the saying goes bird in hand ...

if a DD40 has been sitting around since 2016 or 7, how can one know the MSRP back then

If you have the means, take the deal and then sell the BLRO at double the MSRP and stick the profit back in the bank. There's your discount.

Just a damn shame it has all come to this.

Around that discount was pretty common everywhere until 2018/2019 lol. 20% could be had on PM DD at practically any US AD

First off mate, congrats.

Second, if they are telling you that you will need to "wait" for a BLRO it means your just bumped on their internal list. It doesn't guarantee you one more or less in reality.

Take the BLNR, ask for a BLRO after the fact, and when the BLRO comes in dump the BLNR. Don't over-analyze the salesmanship they're putting on to secure the Day Date transaction, if they could bundle a BLRO they'd be offering it to you now and (alas) they don't need to (like the Daytona). You know what they say about a bird in the hand...

.
