to me the cyclops the best.....makes me love my sub even more...

the other night i was about to go to bed, i was taking off my Sub and looked right at the date Sept 13, i literally jump out of bed and said loudly...ohh gosh i forgot to pay my credit card bill (last day due is the 13th of every month) i just completely forgot...
i always pay it in full ( for air mileage points ) no interest, i hate paying interest on anything...
my Rolex date saved me interest/late fee...hahah

I have no need for a date on my chronograph

I prefer no date.
One less thing to set.

I don't even bother setting the date on my dad's 73 DJ when I wear it.
It doesn't have quick set... so I have to turn the crown like a million times to set the date.

Why do you need to know the date when you're racing your car?

Two different watches with a similar case design that are different sizes and thickness. The SkyDweller is much thicker and wears top heavier so that needs to be taken into consideration, the Daytona wears smaller and thinner therefore more comfortable for most wrists. When you take precious metal into account it amplifies the variables, namely weight.

I tried on a RG SkyDweller recently and its a a big heavy watch, if that is what you want and the look you are going for plus have the wrist size to handle it, it would be a good choice (The YM II being another good choice for large precious metal watch). The gold Daytona wears more comfortable but still has a nice heavy weight and feel to it. I would not use the date feature as criteria for picking the watch rather go for the watch that you would wear the most. If this was my only watch I would go for the Daytona due to wearability. If I had a larger collection and want to add a larger more prominent precious metal piece on occasion the SkyDweller would be the one.

Lack of date is an issue for me.

I have/had watches without a date, and even in rotation with others, was an issue.

Another issue for me with the Daytona is screw down chrono buttons--hindrance to use.

A date on a Daytona would detract from the dial layout, would make it look too 'busy', add an imbalance IMHO so I can live without it.
On non chronographs such as a GMT, Sub etc then yes the date function is good to have.

I bought a stainless Daytona with a white dial. Sold it less than a year later because it had no date. It’s one Rolex I don’t regret selling.

The only chrono that has a date on it and looks good, IMO, is the Datograph. I think those chrono's with the date at an angle at 4 o'clock are hideous.

I have worn my Daytona every day this year and been able to power through the lack of date function and convince myself I am enjoying the watch just fine.

I do think comparing a Daytona (chrono) to a Sky-D (AC GMT) is a bit like comparing a Corvette to a Camry.

I love having the date as I seem to need it on a daily basis...like what the hell day is it again? haha

This was my reason to stay away from the daytona for a long time...until I tried one on. Oh man the comfort level of this watch is the sweet spot. Even for someone like me with bigger wrists. 8"

The aesthetics are obviously the big plus with what many would say is the most iconic design all-time.

You can't beat the long term value and collectibility of these either.

Please stop with the car comparisons and no it's not a vette vs camry. Both are very nice sporty watches even though SkyD is from the professional line they both have the same design case with the SkyD just being bigger and thicker.

I am slowly working toward a 100% dateless collection. I know what today's day and date is and tomorrow it will be that +1.

I wear a half dozen watches regularly and don't keep all of them on winders so I just don't want to fool with the daily date setting. I suppose I could just not set the right date since I never look at it but I'd just as soon have a cleaner dial.

Honestly it really annoys me not having a date all the time though. I could never be a ‘Yellow gold Daytona and that’s it’ kind of guy for that exact reason.

With all that being said, I really, really, REALLY hope they don’t add a date to it when they finally release the ‘12’ series Daytona as it will be coming soon. Just makes sense with practically everything else being in the 12’s. I’m hoping for a slight case increase, new dials and that’s it.

Any idea when the "12" series Daytona's will be coming out? Next year I assume??

I have no real need for the chronograph on my chronographs but I like the look of them. The last thing these dials need is a date window squeezed in somewhere.

From an aesthetics standpoint, I prefer it without the date.

The annoying thing though... and I can't stress enough how much of a first world problem this is.... is that the Daytona is my only watch without a date function and I've become incredibly used to quickly checking my wrist when I need the date. So when I happen to be wearing the Daytona and pull that move... aaarrrrrgggggghhh! it's not there! And that friend... can literally ruin your day.

I feel you need to approach this from a different perspective. I have watches with and without a date. It doesn't bother me when I look down and don't see the date. The date is on my office phone, computer screen, and cell phone. So that is up to you to decide regarding the date function. The more important concern is the size of these watches, The Daytona is very classically styled barely 39mm while the SkyDweller is 42 mm and wears bigger. I would suggest go out and try to find an AD or secondary dealer who can let you try them on for size. I feel wrist size matters more here than the date. My.02.

Its really hard to have to not only look at your watch and realize there is no date function but then, have to go reach for your phone out of your pants pocket to see the date.........its a tremendous burden those of us with a Daytona must bear!!!

I don't mind not having a date, the symmetry of the dial is perfect without it. But I always find myself looking down and expecting to see it.

Regardless of date vs no-date, the Sky Dweller is a more proportional watch as related to dial. The Daytona dial is too small, looks crowded, busy, and less legible. There was a time when AD’s couldn’t sell the Daytona, but now it’s the “in” watch.

Buy YOUR desire, not other’s.

Agreed the SkyD with sticks is a cleaner, more unified, and proportional dial, I like it. Just too big for me.

No date is the only way to go....Daytona over Sky-Dweller every day. IMHO Sky-Dweller bezel turning is gimmicky

Perhaps a bad analogy. My point is that to me they are very different watches. Neither is better or worse, just different. At least that's the way I see it. An annual calendar GMT with a fluted bezel is a different kind of watch than a chrono. At least it is to me.
