Tell me about Omega SM GMT - 50th anniv 2234.50.00
Hi,
Can you guys tell me something about this watch. I cannot find too much information about it online. It caught my eye as I was researching GMT watches among various brands. It seems like a cheaper alternative to the Rolex GMT II. 1. Do you know when was the last time it was produced ? 2. What would be a reasonable price for a excellent condition of this watch ? 3. Any comment on the movement of this watch? I assume it's not the in-house one made by Omega but ETA, correct ? 4. Could you post some pictures if you happen to have the watch ? 5. Is the watch comfortable to wear ? Many thanks to everyone |

I've owned two Omega GMTs; the one you are asking about and the white dial version.
My personal preference is the 50th anniversary model because, to me, it is a little more subtle on the wrist. The GMT wears fine; a tad thicker than the non-GMT Seamaster, but the difference is not great. I see them offered on auction sites in the low-middle $2,000s. On watch forums, I see them in the mid-upper teens. It appears the price trend is on the upswing for these models. The 50th anniversary model was introduced in 1998. I believe the production continued through around 2009 +/-. |

It's a great watch and is a "tad" thicker than the non-GMT version.
We have some trusted sellers on this forum that sell lots of Omega's, you could reach out to one of them to help source you a watch. Here's what they have on the Omega site: http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/se...m-gmt/25358000 Here's one on TRF: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...ight=omega+GMT |

The movement is Omega Caliber 1128. It's a ETA 2893 with 2 extra jewels, improved winding efficiency and Omega finishing. The 2893 is the 2892-A2 with a GMT module. It's a very reliable movement but less sophisticated than the Rolex GMT Caliber 3185/3186 which has a Brequet overcoil spring and 4 micro adjustment nuts on the balance wheel as well as a full balance bridge. My Omega has kept time to about a second or two a day for 5 years. I like the watch so much I sold my GMT and kept the Omega (I know, nuts but I really like this watch). The design celebrates the original Seamaster 300 - I like this too. Price -I'm not sure. About 1700 USD? It's a bargain. Good luck with the hunt. Remember you may need to get a service on top of that unless you can find one recently serviced.
