i will say this, tudor has one of the best bang for the buck in the entire industry.

but part of the reason is the value proposition.

In general, tudor is worth more objectively. Their brand name probably doesnt command more though. Not at this point.

At the end of the day I think its brand strength that determines price positioning within a particular subset of the watch market more than anything else.

Best advice that can be given. Unless a poster was a Tudor AD.

Loss of value assumptions about new Tudor models may no longer be valid given Rolex scarcity and the inability of most other Swiss brands to offer value retention comparable to the Rolex family. If I collect watches and there is a downturn in the economy I would much rather have a Tudor in the watch box than other Swiss brands, especially if I want to flip or trade. Vintage Tudor is doing pretty well for essentially a second watch line.

I dont’ think most people think of a $4000 watch as cheap. For this price you can get a lot of great watches, such as Omega.

Highly doubtful that a Rolex GMT or diver costs 2x what a corresponding Tudor costs to produce.
That's the power of marketing and branding.

That’s the beauty of the business model. Offer a high quality watch and chip away at mid priced peers like Breitling and omega.

I agree with you.

Is a Rolex GMT worth $8500 objectively? I think my GMT is a really nice watch but if the exact same watch was made by some obscure brand would anyone buy one? Would I spend $8500 on it? Probably not.

I think it’s fairly safe to say that objectively speaking Tudor is undervalued and Rolex is overvalued. But once you take brand strength into consideration it all makes sense.

I don't know. There just isn't anything that matches the look and feel of a metal bracelet Rolex under $8500 from anyone else. I think Omega is cool but their bracelets are really ugly compared to Rolex. If I ever bought one I would wear it on leather or nylon.

I view the Oyster as a masterpiece. Really all 3 of Rolex's bracelets are masterpieces. It's kind of like the headstock of a Fender Strat or Gibson Les Paul. While others can make as good or better or a guitar for the same price, those headstocks will always look funny.

I agree with you 100% on the bracelets. The Oyster, Jubilee, and President bracelets are the 3 best looking bracelets in the entire watch industry in my opinion. When I start looking at brands outside of Rolex I’m always turned off by how ugly the bracelets are in comparison.

The royal oak and nautilus bracelets are probably my favorites outside of Rolex but in my opinion they aren’t as good looking as any of the 3 Rolex bracelets.

Tudor is being priced very competitively in order to bring in new customers and also to compete in the the entry-mid-level tier.

Remember, Rolex are fantastic watches but there is a massive premium being paid for the name on the dial.

I voted fair. In Tudor you basically get Rolex performance in every respect. You just don't get the big brand name.

I suppose that might be true in a broad sense, but there are plenty of subtle - and not so subtle - differences between the models of the brands that add up to distinctly different watches, imo. I don't know that the differences alone justify the price discrepancy, but in my case, I went with Rolex for more than just the name.

Tudor is priced just right in my opinion.

When the dust clears, I'd really like to have a GMT.

I sure wish my AD was still here.

I don't really care to drive to El Paso or Denver to make a purchase, but one does what one must.

The latest iterations of the Seamaster 300m are a prime example of a nice watch, that is completely ruined by the Armani look a like bracelet. Why they put that on a true diver, is absolutely beyond me.

They’d rather sell more of them and are hoping for a little hype I’m sure.
