AP 15450 Blue or GMT Pepsi NOS with 3186

Hi guys

I have the opportunity to purchase either one of the above mentioned watches at exactly the same price. Both are brand new (AP is 2018 and GMT is 2007 with the updated caliber) and both priced at USD 17.5k. I’m aware of the new Pepsi but don’t like (1) the chunky case/lugs nor (2) the purple/pink ceramic bezel.

Which one would you go for?

Many thanks in advance!
Cheers
V.

AP. Paying that huge premium for 3186 seems beyond nuts.

Especially since the click spring could go in the 3186, particularly if it hasn’t been replaced with the thicker version. I just don’t get it.

AP. That price for the gmt is beyond this world. Yet it probably will stay there for a while. For the same price you could get a decent condition 4 digit reference without box/ paper

Have you tried on the 15450? Wears very small. Especially the way the bracelet tapers very lean. I’m comfortable wearing smaller watches, but the 15450 was too dainty for me. I still wouldn’t pay 17k for that GMT though.

I’m fan of royal oak and Gmt. I think it depend on how to plan to wear it? If you have active life style, Gmt may be more suitable. You can wear it to swim or run without worry

Yes, I have tried on the 15450 in a different dial color and it fits perfect. It seems no one here likes the premium on the GMT. I’m grateful for the views here. Thanks guys.

Yes, I travel quite a bit for work. But the AP is equally versatile.
I think I know what to do now.

Buy the GMT.

You will not regret it at that price.

Are you planning on wearing the GMT ? If so, why buy NOS?
I prefer the GMT as a watch, but not at that price

Do keep us posted. I still think that the gmt will be better choice in Long run. Speaking from fan of gmt :)

They are similar but yet I never get tired of them.

As you soon as you wear the GMT the value reduces significantly - so why not buy lightly used?

I agree, peel one sticker off and you'll lose 50% of the value. I personally dont even think that watch is worth that and wouldn't pay that.
AP hands down the best choice for me and the AP looks marvellous.

Who cares? It is worth it to get that watch, unpolished and to take the stickers off knowing you are the only owner and it is as it should be. This is worth the premium to me and when prices increase again the value will be made up.

This. 100%. It’s about what being the first person to wear a perfect watch is worth to you.

Arguably no watch is worth that money. So saying it’s too expensive compared to the AP is a but of a moot point.

I would get a 16710 but no way I’d pay that premium. Find a complete set gently worn and enjoy the watch. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 3185 movement.

The hype around the 3186 is astonishing. One could purchase both a 16710 3185 and 116710 3186 for the cost of a 16710 3186.

the blue dial 15450 is getting harder to find, and with AP starting to reel in distribution don't think the scarcity will let up. get the AP while u can!

AP 15450 Blue or GMT Pepsi NOS with 3186

When I had the opportunity to pick up a M-serial full set 16710 3186 rectangle dial I jumped on it. I know it’s “just a movement” but it’s a fact that Rolex did not make many of them with this configuration. The 16710 is already a hot timepiece - add something unique (3186 movement and rectangle dial with off-centered dash between GMT- Master), and people will pay the premium. It’s discontinued, and there aren’t many out there. I see these going for over $20k on Chrono24. In my opinion, I would pick up the GMT at that price.

Something to ponder: the new 126710 BLRO is the hottest SS Rolex watch right now and Chrono24 already has 19 of them for sale (watch is still in production). The 16610LV is hot and there are 194 listed on Chrono24. The 16710 3186 only has 18 listed on Chrono24. Proof is in the pudding that the 16710 3186 is rare. Rolex and rare in the same sentence is going to translate into a collectible piece IMO.

CHEERS!

If 17.5k is too high of a price for the NOS GMT, what price makes sense to you? Then determine if that difference justifies the regret you may have if you pass. My guess is it won’t, but if it does, then get the AP (assuming it’s not too small). Good luck and keep us posted.
