Fun fact: Less than 1% of Rolex owners

I'll start.

Less than 1% of Rolex owners know the reference number of their watch(es).

Maybe include a photo with each response? Here's my 116713 and morning beverage.

What about the silly nicknames people seem intent on giving every new release?

Maybe that's because knowing the reference number simply isn't important to but 1% or much less of Rolex buyers. I'd guess less than 20% know the name on their watch, again, because it isn't important to them.

I’m not sure I understand.

Is this a game? What are you starting? Why would most owners want to know? They aren’t watch nerds like us.

And how do we actually know the statistics? This would be a tough game.

I’m so on the fence with those. Mostly, I just don’t care. I mean, it’s silly.

But, for some reason hulk works for me. When someone says Batman, I admit I don’t love it.

Again, I don’t care. But it weird how some sorta bug me, and some I love.

Just the ones they own is no big deal. The whole sports line plus their calibers and all their previous models with their calibers you're entering true enthusiasts territory.

Reference numbers are useful when discussing the various iterations of a model through the years with some specificity, e.g., Submariners: 6200, 6204, 6205, 6536, 6536/1, 5508, 5510, 6538, 5512, 5513, 16800, 168000, 14060, 14060M, 114060, 16610, 116610, etc.

Where is this data point sourced from. Are we surveyed when buying a watch? Is this important for ownership.
How many people know the chassis code for their vehicle?

Have to agree especially over the last few years, its now alignment points, lupe mania, constant checking time syndrome. Plus the other many syndromes the new Rolex watch owner has today, like will this or that go up if I buy this or that.Afraid today many new Rolex watch owners have no idea how a mechanical movement works, never mind knowing the reference numbers. Many today are far more interested in giving very childish names for Rolex watches I bet old Hans Wilsdorf turns and cringes in his grave.

FWIW, while I think I might know what you are trying to do. This post clears things up not at all.

I know my model numbers....but unfortunately none of mine have cool nicknames. I love the nicknames. Internally I referred to my white Milgauss as the BB8, hence my avatar.

I know some folks think speaking in special code lends specificity to their posts. Those same posts make my eyes glaze over, then get skipped. I'm ok not being a member of that minutia club.

Know their Rolex is an automatic movement and not battery powered. I witnessed this once. It was a gift and after not wearing it for a few days it had stopped working as he said, but after I shook it a few times it worked again! It must need a new battery. True story.

I think you have the plural of my singular noun. You're more typical, but required too many vowels in a row.

Sadly, you are right. It is a status symbol for many, possibly some who can not even afford them buy them anyway. Hence the zillion threads on small scratches, etc.
