Good fortune on your venture. I love the look of the 5146 in white gold. Great AC, only one with power reserve, cream dial, understated, lovely. Thoughts?

I considered a 5146 a few years ago and whilst a great watch I prefer 5396 if one were to get an AC Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Big second hand dealer, fair price given market and more than I would pay for a 5167. There is clearly a decent margin in it for them but given that my view is that selling private can involve both risks and/or hassle as well that they can probably get it sold at a higher price I’m happy with the deal. Thanks all for views on what’s next - think shortlist is now the following after having tried a few watches this weekend 5960P (feels modern but still elegant even though it’s a bit on the thick side) , 5230R (beautiful and love the travel connection as that is my main interest outside of watches), 3940 (understated, elegant and amazing value) and less likely 5396R Blue (the blue sunburst with the rose gold is absolutely beautiful but not sure how versatile it is)
Will post once something new is in but could take some time as the above are all amazing watches imho. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You could upgrade to a FP Journe, that would be my choice. ALS also has some nice models, though FPJ is really for those who don't want to compromise.

Take a look at 5327 - I love mine - a bargain right now - can be bad under retail.

Not a big fan of Lange aesthetics but did like the Octa Lune when I tried it with the exception that the 40mm wore slightly large. I may consider an FPJ at a later date but focus now is on an upgraded Patek entry in the collection Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Make sense, just make sure you look at the more 1990s models and earlier because that's where the real quality is. As you can tell by the posts here, new models can have quality problems and seem to not be made to higher specs. Totally agree about wanting higher quality, as long as you avoid the newer models you should be fine.

Trade aquanaut towards complicated piece?
Quote:
In the 1990s and before, was there such a venue for people to publicly express issues with their watches? I’m sure they weren’t perfect back then, either. You constantly contend that current Pateks are problematic and are a compromise versus other brands. Your posts sound like a turntable that is skipping and repeating.

Beauitful watch indeed. I may stick to a complication for now as opposed to grand comp as I really like the watches I have mentioned (5960,5230 and 5396R Blue) and long term ambition is to get a 5270G with blue dial even though that's likely quite some time away

I’m not a big poster here on this forum, and I’m fully aware that what I’m about to say is totally subjective. But, in my opinion, do not trade the 5167. It is the greatest looking and most versatile sport watch out there. I have a complicated Patek with it, and the Aquanaut is the superior watch given it’s classy, under the radar optionality... just a world class watch
