Sub C - Corporate Sales from Tourneau

Hello all. Hopefully this experienced group can provide some insight on this. I am about to acquire a Submariner (116610LN) from an individual who won it in a corporate sales contest. It was purchased by his company through the Tourneau corporate sales group. The watch is brand new but does not have the Rolex warranty card with it, rather a Tourneau warranty booklet that carries a 5-year warranty. The watch's serial number is not listed in the warranty booklet, just the sales order number and model number. In this case, does Tourneau retain possession of the warranty card or is this watch likely a gray item? How does Tourneau reconcile the watch if it returns to them for a warranty repair? I'm a bit confused by all of this because I thought Tourneau was an AD.

Due to the specifics of this scenario the best people to ask would be Tourneau.

It’s not inconceivable that there is no Rolex Sales Warranty due to it being a corporate gift. It follows that it is also not inconceivable that the Tourneau warranty was valid only to the recipient of the gift.

As I said it’s a possibility, I’m not saying it’s a probability. Speak to Tourneau to alleviate your concerns or buy it with the presumption that you have no warranty.

Tourneau is treating this watch as “pre owned”. Tourneau will never sell a pre owned watch with its original warranty card even if they have it. They will only give you their warranty card. The card on the watch you have was filled out to companies name, not yours. You’ll never get a warranty from Tourneau with anyone else’s name on it but yours if you buy it new.

I think if the watch doesn't come with Rolex warranty card, it means no warranty from Rolex. It just looks like that watch came directly from Grey market, you will get the warranty from the grey dealer. If something go wrong, you will have to send to the grey dealer to get it repair under their warranty for free. If you send it to RSC without Rolex warranty card, you will get charge.

No warranty is not a deal breaker by any means. Statistics show the majority of new Rolex watches will NEVER ever need warranty work. The odds are in your favor.

If it comes with paperwork that tells the story, no problem.

If the paperwork has no relationship to the watch, as you seem to imply, sounds like a fish-story to me.

A warranty that just says "watch" isn't likely to be honored by anybody.

I’ve encountered scams where so and so received watch in a “work raffle” or some variant there of. I’d be extremely cautious with this story and get the watch verified through RSC personally. Just my two cents. Good luck.

So if Torneau takes possession of a mint M-serial 16710 with 3186 movement, they will trash the papers and hence leave money on the table with regard to attainable sale price?

Seems like an odd business strategy, let alone trashing the original papers with regard to ownership history and the near-universal goal of maintaining a full set.

Thanks for the replies. I called the Tourneau corporate sales group and this Submariner is, in fact, legit and is in their records (they confirmed the serial number.) They are unsure as to why the original Rolex warranty card is not with the watch but said that it should be. At this point, I'll contact the seller and inquire with him. If he cannot find the card, I'll have to renegotiate the price.

Watch has no Rolex papers and is to be considered used.
The Tourneau papers mean nothing.

Price should reflect this.

Luckily the Submariner is still fitted with the trusted old movement so warranty or not is actually a non issue

I've experienced very favorable service from Tourneau's NYC facility. Quicker turnaround and on one occasion the tech sent me a pix of my GMT totally disassembled, wish I'ed kept it.

The vast majority of Tourneau buyers almost certainly don't know what a"full set" is and don't care. To them, the watch has a five-year warranty and that's all there is to it. I doubt Tourneau considers it money "left on the table" to not give people a fragmented Rolex warranty -- most buyers will consider a full five years from Tourneau to be the same or better. And an in-house warranty drives future engagement with the store, which itself is probably worth more than a slightly higher price for the watch.

It was almost certainly a pre-owned piece if it is only coming with the Tourneau warranty.

Yeah, something is not right here. I have seen Rolex corporate orders that come complete with papers/warranty card. There's no reason a new watch acquired through an AD should not. As others have conjectured, it's either technically pre-owned or something fishy is going on.
