14270 lume question : defect or age?

Hello,

I just received a beautiful swiss only 14270 from 99 that I love. Everything checks out but it does have some sort of abnormality on the 12 o’clock lume that didn’t appear in the photos.
Looks like a little dimple.
I am wondering if I’m being too picky given the age of the watch and I should just enjoy it, or if it’s in fact a big deal.

I would love to hear your opinions on this thank you!

The lume is just and paint nothing more and when applied sometimes it shrinks as it dries but as long as it glows not a problem. What is a problem especially with new owners and loupes and high magnification now they can and will be the owners worst enemy.

it doesn't look like it.

the lume looks original. it's just this particular marker that has the issue.

It looks different to me. I don't know if you can find a "SWISS" only dial to replace. You would have to search. Service dial would probably read "Swiss Made. "

Why bother? It works! Lume material itself is patchy, blobby inconsistent stuff - No two indices are the same. As long as they keep it all inside the surrounds I'm happy. That's a damn nice Explorer by the way.

Thank you, in theory I completely agree with you but I can’t deny that’s all I see now when I look and it’s driving me a bit crazy. It’s irrational , I’m conscious of that.

I see it, but it wouldn't bother me.

I personally would never bother getting it addressed on its own, but at service time I might ask how much extra it costs to get a replacement dial. There's also a chance that during service the RSC might replace it for free if it decides that the old dial should have held up better.

(And I also wouldn't care if I got a service dial that wasn't exactly the same. This isn't a rare watch that needs to be kept original. As long as the lume matches the hands, I'd be fine with a service dial.)

I would try to keep the original dial (if the service dial differs). As with most things out of production, it will become rare / harder to find over time.

Some watch enthusiasts shouldn't buy anything but new.
