Whilst he was left alone for a few minutes to look at the BLNR in more detail I took the opportunity to make comment on the watch. To cut a long story short, he was underwhelmed when he saw the watch in the flesh and actually passed on the opportunity to buy the watch! He was wearing a black faced explorer II and thought the BLNR was too small in comparison. He also thought the blue was brighter than he had expected and didn't think it was a watch he could use for everyday wear like the explorer. He had intended to trade his explorer against the BLNR but in the end decided to put the safety catch back on and not pull the trigger! I couldn't believe what I was witnessing.
I guess it was a lucky day for the guy next on the list.
During a chat over a coffee with one of the owners of the AD about the usual availability of SS models and Basel speculation his thoughts were that the hulk would be discontinued. Which, if there is to be a new Sub this year, would probably make sense. He also said that their contact at Rolex had told him that this year would be more of a "consolidation year" for Rolex with not too many changes being made.
Before leaving I made sure to stake a claim for one of the first of the new subs, should one be released. Not long to go now before we find out.
You're most fortunate.
My local ADs wont let you stake a claim of any description until the new model is actually released and they have an official notification from Rolex of an actual model number.

Clearly a great watch and one of the best all-arounders out there in my opinion. Just not for everyone.

I bought my BLNR at about 70 and had been lusting after it for at least a year. I still think it is a dramatic yet not gaudy watch.but, I have eclectic taste owning DateJust, DayDate, Calatrava, etc.

I think Rolex marketing is pure genius. They offer a wide variety of watches all with high quality and maintain a sense of exclusivity.

No, it is a forum darling and very popular, but the start of this thread was very unusual with so much bashing, but looks like when you give people a little window, the haters happily come out to play, so we have to keep a tight on lid on this as the whole forum will soon degenerate into a Kardashian style bitchfest.

i dont think its the most bashed. Not even close. If i liked colored bezels, i would get one. Its a great looking watch actually. I personally just dont want a half blue bezel.

Not shocking at all, not everyone likes color. I think the BLNR fits better within a collection rather than being a "one and only." But it's a much safer choice than something like a Pepsi.

Someone else will be happy to get that BLNR, it's a beautiful watch particularly on a super jubilee!

Kudos to the gentleman to pass on the watch rather than buy it, and try to sell for a profit.

Like ANY Rolex, it has its fan base and a few that don’t like it so much.

I have had mine since early 2014 and still catch myself staring at it. I like it better than the Coke or Pepsi. It seems to change colors, depending on the amount of lighting; additionally, it blends in with anything from casual to dress wear.

BLNR is a very innovative, unique piece (first Rolex ceramic dual color bezel insert, if I am not mistaken). Some will love it, some won't. Personally, I have bought it three times since 2014, and sold it each time as I could not warm up to the blue/black combo. It's a striking watch but not for everyone. Kudos to the guy that passed it on to the next in line rather than selling for a profit on secondary market.

I personally didn’t like the LN model of the GMT Master II because GMTs are meant to have a 2 tone bezel to easily tell between night and day for your other tine zone.

Well, under current Rolex AD rules, when purchased, the stickers are removed, the warranty card is held, and the watch is placed in a Rolex-branded bag that the sales associate then smashes repeatedly with a small sledgehammer to prevent resale. The buyer can then show the bag to his friends and say “Hey, look at my new Rolex”.

Size was prob the key coming from the EXPII. BLNR is one of rolex best looking modern watches in my opinion.

I had BLNR for a few weeks. Sold it shortly thereafter. Agree it’s a fad, lots of hype, and the watch just didn’t do much for me. SD4k, however, is just perfect and I wholeheartedly plan to keep this watch for life.

I own a black ceramic bezel GMT and a BLNR. I like the black better and use it more frequently. I don't flip the BLNR because it was a gift from my sister.

My kids are millennials, but I love the BLNR. I want one. Of course, I still listen to Metallica, so I might be an exception, but seriously, I think this watch is beautiful.

It’s the best looking watch Rolex has. The demand for it proves that regardless of what people say here. Same thing with the green sub. Lots of haters of that but it too is one of Rolexes best looking watches. Demand for it proves that as well.

I’m not crazy about Rolex watches with flowers on the dial. However you don’t see massive waiting lists for those. :-)

All kinds of preconceived opinions can fly out the window when you have the actual watch on your wrist. I don't have many watches--when trying on the BLNR I was at my AD to buy a couple of years back, ended up walking out with a DJII instead. Was looking for versatility.

This sort of thing probably happens more often than you would think (across Rolex's whole range of watches, not just the BLNR).

I completely agree. Same thing happened to me with the new Daytona only I actually bought it and wore it for a couple weeks and then flipped it. The differences though for whatever reason the green sub and the BLNR have maintained above average popularity from the beginning and it doesn’t look like it’s going to change anytime soon.

I really wanted one. Had an opportunity to buy one and passed mostly for the reasons described above. Sorry, that is not a $10K watch.

You are of course correct sir. It is in fact a $8950 watch.
