BLNR rejection at AD

Whilst visiting my local AD today I witnessed a customer who had arrived at the dealer after getting the call that his new Rolex GMT BLNR had just arrived!
Whilst he was left alone for a few minutes to look at the BLNR in more detail I took the opportunity to make comment on the watch. To cut a long story short, he was underwhelmed when he saw the watch in the flesh and actually passed on the opportunity to buy the watch! He was wearing a black faced explorer II and thought the BLNR was too small in comparison. He also thought the blue was brighter than he had expected and didn't think it was a watch he could use for everyday wear like the explorer. He had intended to trade his explorer against the BLNR but in the end decided to put the safety catch back on and not pull the trigger! I couldn't believe what I was witnessing.
I guess it was a lucky day for the guy next on the list.
During a chat over a coffee with one of the owners of the AD about the usual availability of SS models and Basel speculation his thoughts were that the hulk would be discontinued. Which, if there is to be a new Sub this year, would probably make sense. He also said that their contact at Rolex had told him that this year would be more of a "consolidation year" for Rolex with not too many changes being made.
Before leaving I made sure to stake a claim for one of the first of the new subs, should one be released. Not long to go now before we find out.

I'd pass on it, too. I think it's a fad.

Not flabbergasted by the guy's decision. It's only in here that the BLNR status is so highly elevated and coveted.

He ordered without trying first and that can be a problem.

He also probably didn't know about the current resale, or can't be bothered to sell it privately as the dealers are a bust now here. But good that he chose his watch over the hype.

Blnr is photogenic... but in real life, I also found the blue too bright for my taste

All hype aside, people have different taste and what is hyped up here might not appeal to someone else

I turned down a SD43 from my AD Because I felt it too similar to my subC which I didn’t want to get rid of

Considered to be crazy by some here but that’s why we all have different likes and dislikes

I respect that he passed on it for someone who would admire and cherish the watch would get it ..... cheers

The BLNR is a beautiful watch ... Though it isn’t for everyone.
I let mine go after about a year and half. Do I miss it ?
Sometimes, but then other watches take its place and I forget
about it ...

EXACT same happened to me. They even took the stickers off and I just panicked just totally underwhelmed me and I hated the PCLs. Love my Hulk

That’s funny, I was talking to my ad about the blnr. I don’t really like it either, to me it’s a failed experiment, it doesn’t do anything to me, the blue is to purple-ish. I love the ceramic Pepsi but I hope it was SS. I hope the bring back the coke in SS.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, but what the OP relates here seems more an exception in the face of the overall reality of the BLNR's desirability since it was introduced and the numerous threads posted here by BLNR seekers. In short, the BLNR is not a fad watch. Is there a possible age component involved in how tasty you may find it? Maybe. Or maybe not. But reasoned objectivity about why people are lusting after it may help prevent you from buying a Rolex equivalent of "dad jeans" that you may not be able to unload as you may want in a couple of years or more.

Many including my wife think that blnr is the ugliest white metal gmt and even I prefer the all black gmt over blnr. I’ve seen people not liking the tt but I personally love it the most. I guess what I’m saying is that beauty is really in the eye of the beholder and if blnr is more available then people would be much more rational about it.

If the Hulk is discontinued without a viable substitute watch, it would suck for those on waitlists? Or would they continue some down the pipeline after the anoucement?

It’s the white gold one that’s off, the blnr is crisp and perfect

I personally find the whole range of Ceramic GMT’s a failed experiment. The main reason, I believe, why the 5 digits are so more desirable on the secondary market. I don’t blame him one bit for keeping hold of that Explorer. It’s a true Rolex tool watch.

Yep. Anyone thinking that is purplish needs to have a peeper recalibration. I have a LN but will add a BLNR eventually. To me it’s the absolute pinnacle of GMT evolution. I love the maxicase, cerachrome, and pcls!

Watches are such a personal preference. I love my BLNR but I’m not a fan of the Hulk. I think the green is ugly, while so many others love it.

I sure do like my BLNR. IMO the blue is perfect. I have come close to purchasing a BLRO twice and the colors on the bezel just kill it for me....in a bad way.

This watch never needs justifications. Haters going to hate.

I don't even like six digit maxi cases and this was my first Rolex and nothing came close for me as my first watch. Not even Daytona.

I do think is awesome the guy passed on the watch so that next guy in line can enjoy it.

I just tried the BLNR on at my local dealer. Honestly, its stunning but on my 7"wrist, it was a little small.

I’m a solid X’er and the BLNR was the first Rolex I ever considered buying so I picked one up. Then picked up a hulk a few months later as a daily beater. There... how’s that!
