Can we ban all pricing/market/investment posts full stop on here?

I joined as this is a forum for Rolex enthusiasts and owners, not to see people hijack it as a vehicle for market manipulation to drive demand for model X over Y based on rumors and innuendo. Or lately, promoting the narrative that these “luxury toys” are still sound investments or other nonsense. There are dedicated facebook groups for dealers, speculators, and manipulators to talk about and collude on the Rolex/watch market as a whole. Anyhow, I know these threads will persist and no rules will be enacted to prevent them but I’m bored of seeing nothing but incredibly transparent tactics by grey’s and other invested parties to leverage this forum to their advantage. All as a means to help offload their bloated inventory before the inevitability of a severe crash occurs thanks to Covid.

Flame away...

That is kind of a North Korean approach, don’t talk about things and pretend they never happen. Freedom of speech is often ugly, but is the only way true can be heard.

Check out this thread: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=737463

Bottom line, Steve and the mods will be taking a hard line on those types of threads and they will be locked.

Can we ask how many rolls of toilet paper our Rolexes can be traded for?

Agreed. But that’s what businesses do. This is a business.

Sudo_root, three posts in 2014, one in 2018 and one in 2020.

Maybe if you participated more, and added to the forum, there maybe more interesting threads, rather than just complaining.

Instead of an outright ban, what about a sub section where it can be discussed freely?

This makes part of what I was going to say redundant

I've never understood how people find it difficult to simply not read/participate in threads that are not to their taste.

Maybe ban threads asking to ban threads?

Read the rules again.

Steve quoted the rules in a recent public banning. And he has started reinforcing the existing rules.

https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...2&postcount=28

For now the Mods have been locking the threads. I think they will give any OP a warning if his/her posts persist.

I think the OP on this thread used “ban” in wrong context. I’d lock the threads, give fair warnings, and only ban for failure to comply.

I agree with most of what you've said except, the context part, the OP posted "Banning -full stop". I interpret as none, not allowed, therefore no lock. But as I said the rest is correct.

For clarification a ban vs locking threads achieves the same result, but not the best use of terminology on my part. Rather than a complaint, it’s a request to avoid having this forum turn into an instrument to help speculators. If you would like the TRF to be a trade & business oriented forum it’d serve well to go and build something else entirely like that. As opposed to coopting the TRF to serve business needs that go against the interests of anyone not uniquely positioned to gain from it. Therein the issue lies that plenty of casual browsers on TRF are not aware of the subtle manipulation that goes on here and how that’s to the detriment of both themselves and genuine watch lovers alike.

This would be overkill.

And freedom of speech doesn’t apply; this is a private forum in an International venue.

I would just not read the thread if I am not interested. Not into banning. Restricts free speech. No harm to me if people like to speculate on watches, just not my interest.

Isn't price discovery an important element of an efficient market?

This isn’t a securities course and you’ve just highlighted the problem.

I think there is too much censorship already. The impression I get is threads are deleted with no explanation at all. It would appear that if the subject isn't to somebody's liking they just close it down. The thought police are rife and active in 2020.

There are a lot of threads where people post their dislike/annoyance for that particular topic. It just baffles me that they take the time out to read and comment on something they don't want to read.

Its simple really - if you don't like it, don't read it or click on it. Stop the whining!
