Yacht-master bezel after service

Hi guys, I recently brought my yachtmaster to Classic Watch Repair (independent watch service in HK) to refinish the platinum bezel.

I found that the end result/finish seems different (on the sandblasted/frosted part) compared to the original finish. Below are the pics after the service.

It’s more sparkly and coarse, especially under lights, as opposed to a more matte/frosted finish. Is it because they used the wrong medium when they blasted the bezel? Or does it look normal and I’m just imagining things ?

I bet it’s not easy to get it to look exactly as Rolex made it but none the less it looks very good. Wouldn’t bother me

Easiest way would be just go to an AD and compare it with a new model.

I do agree though that the execution looks great.

They used sand/glass beads that are too coarse. It wouldn't bother me but I'd definitely point it out to them.

Yeah, looks like they needed to use a slightly smaller grit size. But, I'd personally be happy with it -- it looks fine to me.

You need a RSC for the RSC finish.

There is no real substitute.

From the “before” photos, it’s hard to see why the insert “needed” refinishing? It looked like new.

Wear and enjoy. In 1 week, you won’t notice anything. Like what Jocke said.

When I owned a 16622 YM, I never had the bezel refinished. Only thing I ever did to the bezel was use very slight amount of cape cod w/ a fine q-tip on the 60 min marker . Used electrical tape as an outline. Came out pretty good.

It's nice watch.

That’s the photo from a year ago. Condition way worse after close to 1 year of daily wear

The bezel before the refinishing looks suprisingly smooth and flat, I can't appreciate any sandblast finish at all on the recessed areas of the bezel. Was it re-touched before this last service? Doesn't look right to me.

In the after service picture, it does look a little bit coarser than it should, similar to how the very first 16622 used to look (the first series), before it was changed to a finer grain in the 16622 and carried over to the 116622.

Here's my unmolested 116622 bezel, not coarse but certainly not smooth and flat.

White gold and PT Yachtmaster II looking like a nice bet right now

PT bezel was always a huge concern

Seems it is a bit more rouser finish. I think it looks great. the refinished bezel actually has more pop to it. and the coarser finish will hides more scratches and dings. Weat it and enjoy it!

I had mine refinished by Dallas Gold & Silver when I bought it. Bezel was hammered. Told them I would take it if they could refinished the bezel and bring it back to like new...

No, it's not factory, but I think it looks pretty good and I wouldn't sweat the minor difference.

How much do they charge for the red date? It’s amazing.
