Daytona not that big?
Hello fellow members I feel that the Daytona looks smaller than it actually is.
Here it’s next to a 36mm datejust and they look close in size. What do you guys think? All comments are appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The same conundrum that I have when deciding to wear either my or BLNR. I tend to favor the GMT IIc because proportionally looks better on my 7.25" wrist.

What’s deceiving is the crystal and bracelet size. Both the DJ and Daytona have a 30.5mm crystal and 20MM bracelet. The difference in size is the bezel.

Yes, the Daytona is small. One of the reasons I sold mine.
I have 8” wrist and it always looked small. |

The first Daytona i purchased was a lovely panda dial TT back In 2014
It lasted 1 month and I traded it for a blue TT sub. At the time I wore an LV sub almost daily in the Daytona felt small hence the swap to another TT watch, but the same proportions as my green sub.... the blue version. Anyway, I massively regret the swap based on size. I do very much like that blue TT sub but I got caught up in the upsizing trend around 2015. I realised quickly that 39mm is my perfect size and the latest subs are chunky. I hope they taper them In September. 7” wrist, Now for me, Daytona, explorer, ck2998 speedmaster And bb58 are the perfect sized watches |

I see them as noticeably different in size. I think the Daytona is the perfect size for me having a smaller 6.5in. wrist!!!

Very interesting to see how much case size affects one's impression of overall watch size. This thread raises a great point- case size vs crystal or dial size. To me, bigger is better, up to a point, for the benefit of legibility. I would really like to see any reference information anyone has on current Rolex crystal sizes. The only ones I can find do not include the SkyDweller or DJ 41.

The Daytona is a 39mm watch. The new ceramic bezel pehaps gives it the illusion of being bigger. If you have a big wrist, then you may not be as satisfied with the Daytona. I believe Rolex are happy with the size, because when they make watches over 40mm everyone starts the "it's too big" complaint. You saw that with DJII and DDII both 41 mm. Complaints continued with SD43 and Deap sea 44, SkyDweller 42mm. Prices on used DDII are skyrocketing and I don't see alot of pre owned DJII for sale. Meaning people aren't dumpng DJII because it was too big. Some people want the wrist presence, but it seems to me the average Rolex buyer isn't into a large watch. The current DJ41 is 39mm and the curent DD 40 is also 39mm.

One of its attributes in my opinion. Most other chronographs on par with it’s size, and comfort Are far more expensive.
Oh yeah and the movement is built to take tough. |

I have a flat 6.3" wrist, and once I saw and tried the Daytona on in person, I was kind of put off by it. No offense to anyone who owns one, they're an iconic watch, but they don't move me whatsoever. Glad I feel no need to join the chase for one.

Daytona is a 40mm watch, and even with it not "wearing" like a full 40mm, it's still going to be noticeably larger than a 36mm DJ.

I thought that the Daytona went well on my wrist when I tried one a while back, it was the MOP dial and diamonds that I didn't like.

I think it looks smaller than it is. but it doesn't radiate smallness I've never met a Daytona that wasn't achingly gorgeous aesthetically, and although perfectly easy to tell the time on, I struggle with the sub dials, which defeats the object for me. If only it was 42mm. Or maybe AR coated under the crystal. Or both. Then again, I'd only want one, so best not (yet).

I got the call from my AD, he had a couple Daytonas for me to try. I rushed right over, put the first one on and was immediately disappointed. After wearing my DJ41 and GMT II, i just wasn’t feeling the love and he could tell. He excused himself and came back with a Sky Dwelller and i bought it on the spot.
I’m glad i tried the Daytona on, but it’s just not for me. I have tried to talk my wife into one, just in case i wanted to try again. |

Definitely a smaller watch than what people expect. It’s one of the reasons I had to have one as on my smaller wrist it actually looks like fits unlike the sub etc.
I really wish it would less popular. Maybe in another 20 years... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The Daytona already wears small and it looks massive next to the 36mm.
That is why I cant never wear a 36mm. Its just so small for any man these days imho. |

As has been shown here many times, the Daytona is not a 40mm watch. Rolex can call it that if they so choose, but actual measurements confirm it's 38.5mm. It wears small because it IS small.

Agree 100%. Def only 38.5mm. The ceramic bezel at least gives illusion of larger than old version.

I think it's a perfect size. Great wrist presence without having a can of tuna on your wrist like the new Sea Dweller. Wears similar in size to my Sub but with a slimmer profile so works better with dress shirts ...slides under the cuff. Love it!
