Would you trade an SD43 for this 1675?
As the title states, would you trade an SD43 MKII for a 1968 Long E 1675?
A little background on the reason for the trade is that I wanted an SD43 when they were announced in 2017. I am from a family of divers and have always loved the Sea Dwellers in general. Before purchasing the one I currently have, I passed up offers from ADs more than a few times for one reason or another. I am honestly not much of a diver but an avid aviation enthusiast, as I am a private pilot and a partner in an airplane. So with that, what would you all say as far as trading the SD43 for the 1675. Mine is a full set purchased May 2019 and the 1675 is naked.Below is a picture of the one i am looking at currently. |

A great dive watch for a watch so stretched it can’t be worn. No

For a good 1675 Mk1 I would in an instant. Unfortunately this is not a that one. Hands and possibly dial look relumed and bracelet is shot.

For me, the biggest issue with owning vintage is the care involved. Unless you’re getting a very clean example, there are usually issues with movement, bracelet, etc. This is an additional out of pocket costs after you buy it. From your photo, it looks like the band is badly stretch and something about the bezel looks off. It’s too new looking compared to the dial. Also, do you know the owner of the watch? Without papers you have no idea if the watch has been serviced or what. Personally, I stay away from vintage because the cost of experience can be expensive and the care to be too much work. If it was me, I’d get rid of the SD43 and find a newer-ish GMT or SkyD if you really want a pilots watch. |

Negative. But I’m no fan of vintage hidden expenses. Been there done that. But to each his/her own.

Post this in the vintage section and look for a response from Springer. He and a couple others are experts. 24 hand looks repaired. Minute hand looks repaired or stabilized but it’s not a good job, imo. You can find a better example. Things like that would bother me. And I’d end up changing hands, and there goes $2500, if you can find a proper, original set. Or you’d have to have the hands “colored” to match the dial. Again, more $$. Get one that does not need work. I speak from experience (unless you are comfortable working on it yourself).
I am a GMT nut. I love them. I owned a Long E, and other 1675’s. I restored a year 1968, 2 years ago. It was some work; and hard to find parts. If I were a pilot (and I did grow up flying a 182) I’d want a GMT. Take your time. Don’t rush. Happy hunting.

Don’t do it. Keep your SD43, it’s an awesome reference.

Not me. I’m not a fan of discolored bezels and stretched bracelets.

I would not let my SD43 go for a vintage piece, and I LOVE vintage Rolex Professionals

I have to agree with most and take a pass here. I'd look for a minty 16710 (3185) W/ B&P.
