I saw one that looked just like this on our local Craigslist, however since it was so cheap I assumed it was just stolen or fake.

We are not asking for fun we want to know as we are all in a similar situation and we should help each other avoid dangerous situations. It might also help your peace of mind to turn this into something positive and help others.
Agreed. Details are unnecessary but the scenario would be helpful for the community to know so that we can be on our guard. Eg recent CL thefts in SoCal when seller agrees to meet 'buyer' at a store only for perp to run off with the watch and into a nearby accomplices car.

I'm curious how many stolen watches actually make it back to their owners. Alton brown had an amazing story about his dad's Omega on talking watches.

This is too interesting not to share.

Do tell. We have time!

As for the OP, I wonder how he would feel if the same perp repeated the same act with someone from TRF. Maybe it would matter to him, maybe it wouldn't, but he is in a position to give forewarning of the scenario, though he isn't obligated to.

No, I was not selling. I have never sold any of the things I collect...

Basically in the past the business was also attached to our residence. The gypsy group of about a dozen people would target such locations by sending the women and crying children or younger kids to distract the employees by creating scenes while the men would try to slip in the back or through open doors or windows. Once inside they scanned the house quickly and just grabbed what they thought was most valuable.

In this case they made their way to the master bedroom and took the safe that was on the ground. In their haste they didn't even bother with my mothers diamond ring and ladies president on top of the dresser.

Police report was filed and the safe was later found about 50km north, cracked open, in a river in the wilds.

All the valuables had been taken except my passport and some sentimental old stuff.

So forgive me if I have some bias or if the term gypsy is politically incorrect, but I have nothing nice to say.

I do not know any of you personally and you are asking me to share events that are traumatic, I have not shared details with anyone other than the police and my wife (for those of you assuming the party route), police recommended NOT to share details. I hope you all can understand. God bless.

I'm sorry this happened and I hope your watch is recovered.

Also, I fully understand and respect that although others could theoretically benefit from knowing more, you don't want to disclose too many details. I've been in that position. You posted a pic along with serial number and (later) the location of the theft. I don't think any additional info would significantly increase the likelihood of finding your watch. Good luck, and if it helps, know that I actually did get a stolen watch back (though 10 years later).

Amen. Leave the OP to the privacy he requests. Why should we expect or eagerly await details of what was obviously an unfortunate set of circumstances for him.
