Help qualifying FIRST Panerai....

I am new to the forum, but have owned my Omega 300 for the past 25 years. I joined the forum when I realized that there were OTHER people who also admired and bought too many watches for no reason other than "wow.... that is cool".

I own my Omega, and also (recently) a couple of new Tudors to sit alongside my vintage Tudor Sub.

And a handful of not expensive, but totally fun, 70's divers.

I'm about to turn 50, and want to buy a nice watch like I did when I bought my Omega at 25.

I was considering Rolex - LOVE the brand.... but..... maybe more off a Tudor guy. I can't seem to fall for any specific Rolex. So maybe the Rolex will wait for my 75th birthday

So..... I have always liked Panerai..... and think it goes perfectly with my OTHER love of air-cooled Porsche 914 cars. I love the bold, mechanical look.

Here's where I need help....... I will ultimately get what I like. That said, I want to know if what I "like" is a proven model, or if it has some quirls that I should be aware of.

(sorry for the longishh post....)

I like the PAM 177

Why?

1. The 44mm size is about as big as I will probably go
2. The titanium case suits my style
3. The sandwhich dial is also good for me
4. No date (I think).... I prefer no date
5. I think it has an ETA movement..... and that's OK with me. I actually like the fact that my old/new Tudors have ETA movements..... for simple, local servicing

Questions:

1. I don't see Titannium used a lot on Panerai. Any reason?
2. Is this model known for any quirks?
3. Any specific 177 reference better than others? (year, complication, etc.)

I keep my watches..... so it's important that I know the options before I buy. I would hate to have to sell if I find that I overlooked something.

Cheers to a great forum! Thank you for welcoming me. It's a great place to visit daily.

Robert

I have 177O from 2012/2013

I think titanium panerai is rarer on pre owned market because they produce less titanium watch in comparison to SS and Ti is less popular due to its matte-ness (which I like as I have both 111 and 177)

Personally 177 is my favorite 44mm pam as it’s light, easy to wear and very legible

176 and 177 are also the only titanium luminor with black dial and display back

Early 177 (I think E-G series) have painted dial so I’d advice you to stay away from them if you’re specifically looking for sandwich dial

I like the 177 , before I got my 111 I compared both and went for the 111, but the 177 is awesome it’s much lighter and easier to buff out nicks on the case
