Datejust for daily use

Does anyone use a Datejust over 30 years old as a daily watch?

Pictures please

I wore one as part of a two watch rotation for a while. Datejust could easily be an “only” watch for most people.

My father gave me his DJ from his collection after I graduated from college. It's in the neighborhood of 30 years old (jubilee, fluted bezel, siliver linen dial). It's part of my daily rotation alongside some modern Rolex professional models to this day.

The thing that gives me more doubts is the jubilee. Will it endure this daily use?

If you keep it clean and wear it snug, I think it will!

A number of folks out there specialize in bringing older jubilee bracelets back to life. No worries as far as I can see. You can do a search here for Michael Young to get started.

I would wear mine everyday but I opted for the Yellow Gold config so It a bit too dressy in my opinion for an everyday watch.

Dang!

I don’t see those often, and people hardly post about those on here

I'll snap a few when I get home. Its on the jubilee with the silver dial, it screams classic Rolex to me outside of the dial color. I liked that the silver dial broke up the gold, good contrast. Your config was my original choice though. I wear my Sub on the daily, my DJ is my special occasion watch

Is keeping it clean important?

I clean it regularly.

I do. But it's on an Oyster bracelet, which I think makes it a bit more versatile (gives it a sporty feel).

The DateJust is an extremely versatile watch, and is in my opinion, a about the best choice for a one-watch person.

Yes

I’ve learned on here that keeping it clean and wearing it snug is what prevents bracelet stretch

Because tiny dirt particles wear down the pins or the spot where the pins go and that’s what causes stretch

I took out a bracelet pin yesterday to resize and it was almost black. Don’t know how dirt got in there but it got me thinking...

I'm considering getting this watch shortly. Could anyone please post the lug to lug measurements of the Datejust 36mm? That would help me decide between the 34mm and the 36mm!

Wear mine everyday, have a few other watches at home but just really like the DJII even though it’s newer than the vintage ones

My late fathers DJ36. Worn daily from 1972 to 2018, 46 years of continuous use and still worn intermittently by myself as part of a rotation. I don’t know of any other watch that’s had this much use in its lifetime and still looks as good as this and still keeps time perfectly.

I’d have to say the Datejust is likely the best all round watch Rolex have ever made and many are worn even as recreational diver watches and worn like a tool watch for many years with no problems.

It’s an incredible feat of well designed, solid, reliable and elegant engineering. That’s why my dad bought it in the first place.

Completely agree. It’s the original ‘do-it-all’ watch without question.

I probably wear mine as much or more than any other. No matter what I'm wearing, I always am dressed. Love the DJ.

I got this 16234 from 1989 last year. I specifically wanted the jubilee after trying on a couple different configurations. It’s extremely comfortable and never seems out of place in my opinion.

I had gaskets replaced and the watch passed a pressure test so I’m completely comfortable with it as a daily wearer.
