Bogus Rolex Discount Claims

I have been reading how some buyers claim to get big discounts on new Rolex's. I do not believe this to be true. I would like to see some hard core evidence to such claims. If you can't or are unwilling to post, then don't even say it. My AD said that it is very highly unlikely that such discounts are to be had.

Well BanjoP

If you pay for my ticket to the US, or if you are in Australia, please let me know.

I will be only too happy to show you my receipts from AD's.

I sure would like to see some hardcore evidence. Some of these discounts I am seeing on SS models seem a little outlandish. I buy pre-owned, so I wouldn't really know.

My only discount was on a Panerai. My TT GMTII was cheaper because the price overseas is less, plus there is no sales tax, and it is custom to give 10% off to "your" customers in Qatar.

I've only bought one Rolex new (and that was from a grey dealer). On that one I got a 15% discount from MSRP. All the others have been pre-owned and the discounts have been much steeper - best was 66% off MSRP for my YG DD. But it was 15 years old when I bought it.

Ahhh yes, but 15 years is but a blip on the Rolex radar of life expectancy. Long live your DD!!!

It would appear that your AD is determined to refuse you a decent discount.

I FIRMLY BELIEVE my fellow members. There are far too many respected members with similar experiences of decent discounts (as well as the odd tosser full of bullsh!t).

Speak to other dealers, get a decent discount and then you may become a believer.

John.

If that's what it takes for you to prove it then you should pay the expense yourself. How about a pic!

He is not refusing a discount, only the outlandish amounts that are sometimes posted here. For example TT GMT-NASTER II at a few hundred USD below a AD TT BLue Sub, cut me a break.

The MSRP is nott he same across the board. $2000 in the USA may be 1000 Pounds Sterling, but a $2000 Rolex in the US may fetch $1,200 in England based on many factors such as import taxes, duties, expenses, etc.

My GMT was $8317 in US dollars in Qatar and in the US it is $8925.

Not sure whether to take that as a compliment or not

Seriously though, it was a year I had bought a LOT of stuff, and put every friend I knew who wanted something through the same jeweller.

But, I sold it, so now that I want another I am

We are not comparing US Vs Qatar here. What percentage did you actually get from your AD in your Country and town.

Hi Banjo...It states Rolex, if you know of any grey dealers selling SS Daytona's at list (£4420 is UK list, £2840 SS Sub list) let me know, and as for the AD bit, removed to protect the innocent from the Rolex hit list.

I recently bought a TT GMT II at 17% less than it would have been available in the UK. some of this is because of the export tax and some because of currency.

It;s also true that it depends on where you're based. In the UK it's quite common to get a discount on YG or TT models and less so on SS models. Also in the UK 7-10% is easily achieved on a Plat YM even from the lowest discounting AD's but I know that the same watch in the Gulf is harldy ever discounted...

i must say i'm very impressed by the 10% discount on the SS Daytona.. which for most of us in the UK is either on a list closed or 4 year wait status...

hats off to you Adam..

You think Rolex is that stupid! they can audit an AD's books, and see what their selling them for. Your protection is a self imposed delusion.

Banjo, I didn't say they couldn't, what I am doing is not making it any easier for them by leading them to the AD's door.

Wait 'til Banjo finds out how much JJ pays for his watches at an AD.

He will have a fit or attempt to call the Rolex gestapo in to close the dealer down.

It would make it even easier if people left the price discounts out altogether. We are not the only one's capable of viewing this site and it's contents, I know for a fact that one dealer has a sales person checking it almost every day.

Well Banjo; I do not know how Rolex works, all I know is a) we do get some good prices with some dealers and b) your AD has NEVER been to a cruise @ caribbean. If you do not believe any of us; well, I am sorry. Why would we lie about this? I will not (no offense) 'prove' that pricing in places such as Asia, Hong Kong and the Caribbean are lower than the US price; and also that we deal with PEOPLE who happen to be AD's. I am sure on your line of business (as I do on mine), you do not quote the same price to Framer Bob who walks into the door to your 15 year, consistent customer.

If I were a dealer I would be trying to get in with the members. What a market potential $100,000s of sales potential.

Get them discounts going Mr dealer !!
