Do you no longer wear your SS model because of the increasing value?
Anyone out there bought a Sub or other SS model with plans of using for everyday use, but ow wear it rarely because they are increasing in value?
I recently got a new Sub and wear it often, but I find myself being extra careful when I wear it because they are now hard to get. Anyone with a similar experience? |

Then you’re missing out and limiting your enjoyment of what is intended to be a robust sports watch.

It's a watch - it's meant to be worn! If you want an investment put your money elsewhere (ETF, Stocks, High interest savings).

I felt that way for a bit when I noticed it has probably appreciated 25% since I bought it. But I realized there is almost nothing I could do to it to seriously harm it's value if I wanted to sell it. It's a full set and with a trip to the spa could look new again almost no matter how I treated it. So now I don't worry about it.

I enjoy wearing my watches. However, if one of them were to get lost or stolen, I would not easily be able to get a replacement.
That's my biggest fear. |

At least here, the factors that influence the resale value of modern Rolex watches of the same reference are B&P and age. An established reseller will be polishing up the case into as-new condition regardless of how superficially marked up the case is so as long as the watch hasn’t been treated like a ginger stepchild - not having dings in the case or chips off the crystal - how well worn the watch is won’t make much odds. The only other factor that will make a difference is if it’s fully stickered and unworn, which doesn’t apply to the OP. Therefore, feel free to enjoy your watch.

I'm the poorest member of this forum and it would never occur to me to be mean to myself, I love my hobby, my two steel Rolexes and use them every day.

No..I wear the hell out of my Submariner and wouldn't have it any other way. Come service time, it'll come back looking as new. It's a hardcore watch, if you want to baby something get a Cellini or an iced out GMT.

Nah. Rolexes are such robust watches, it makes me cringe a little bit every time I see "Can I do X" threads. My watches are meant to be worn and not safe queens.
In the modern age, it seems a lot of Rolexes will be "mint" in the future as current owners seem to really baby them. The reason why "mint" vintages carry a huge premium these days is that people in the past actually used the watches like the tools that they are, and few examples were preserved. "Mint" watches won't be rare in the future. I feel that if one is concerned about a few hundred bucks difference in resale value, enough to not wear the watch then you shouldn't have bought it in the first place. Dealers seem to care mostly about the date, and general condition, and won't fuss over the difference between a mark here and there. That said, I do understand the worry, and that applies to my PP 5712. But it is a less robust watch than a Rolex, and I'm more concerned about the inability to replace it if something bad happens to it. |

As someone said, wear and tear no big deal. Lost or stolen would be a problem. So wear often but wisely.

As soon as the stickers come off it's considered pre-owned anyways, plus your warranty card will be dated. Just enjoy the watch and have comfort that you will get most of your money back if you ever want to sell.

I wear whichever watch I feel in the mood wearing. I bought to wear not to collect. What is the point of buying a watch if not to wear.

I take care of it and try to keep it pristine because it's my "precioussss". I don't see it as a resale investment.

And what’s a post without a proper pic. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
