I don’t see a future where a 20k Rolex today will go for retail in 10 years from now. So, that is still a good bet vs. getting a Seiko that drops 50% when you put it on your wrist.

Just my perspective.

Good thing I never consider the depreciation of my watches. Now my cars...that’s a different story

That’s exactly why I try to own appreciating assets and rent depreciating ones. So, I lease our cars :)

If not a Rolex, than an AP Royal Oak. Obviously that's a big jump up in price. But why buy an Omega that will lose half its value the minute you put it on?

Amid the current Rolex craze and lack of availability, I discovered Omega. I love my 126613LB but really enjoy the SMP and Speedy I picked up last year.

So my own answer to this question for now is Omega. I dropped by a Rolex AD the other day to ask if I could put my name down for an Explorer I, they said yes (we'll see if/when I get one). I then dropped by a huge store right around the corner that carries basically every brand except Rolex.

I flipped a Speedy Pro almost 10 years ago and wanted to give it one more shot. I like the previous gen better than the look of the new 2021 release, so picked one up. Can't quite remember why I flipped it, so far I really like it.

I also spent some time looking at other brands that I'm fairly familiar with. The GO Panoreserve caught my eye, that's something I may target in the future after I pick up some of the core SS watches I have my eye on. I also really liked the JLC Polaris with blue dial. I may have walked out with that and the Speedy if it wasn't for the butterfly clasp. But it's still tempting, I might pick that up if the Explorer I doesn't materialize.

The Speedmaster Moonwatch professional is head and shoulders Omega's best piece. it's managed to stand apart from the other over produced "limited edition" pieces.

I love the Rolex sports watches, and i own a couple. But the Omega Seamaster
300M is maybe the most beautiful diver, with the Blancpain 50 fathoms ever
made.It is waterproof unlike the Speedy, and can easily double as a dress watch.
Look at the ref-212-30-41,it is thinner than the newer models, and it looks
fantastic with the black lacquered dial and ceramic bezel.

The problem with other brands is they are not Rolex. And no matter how many times you may abandoned Rolex, you’ll always come back.

But I like some Breitling and TAG model's also.

The scarcity rolex creates keeps the value retention which is pretty nice. Yes the price of admition is higher than an omega SM that anyone can buy 5 of at a time, but once you get your sub it's money we'll spent / invested. . .maybe look into an air king or Zblue

So many great brands out there that I can't be enamored with just one of them.

Grand seiko mate. My SBGA231 is better than any submariner that exist. But it just goes underwater to 200m... So I'll have to be careful if ever i an to go deeper than that. Since i don't dive it shouldn't be a problem for now, and I guess that if ever i get more than 200 meters underwater without diving the least of my problems will be my watch...

I’m very much now looking for alternatives. Went into my AD yesterday to buy jewelry for my old lady and when I tried to just catch up with my SA, he brushed me off like he didn’t have the time of day. We both felt so insulted we left without buying her anything.

The black is quite impressive as well! My AD expects them mid-February, and I have an order in for the white. The videos on youtube are quite impressive, and finally an EP with a hacking movement!

Too bad I don’t have any Zenith authorized dealer near me.

Ha ha.
That's something like they said when I left where I did my apprenticeship and I was moving up the ranks.

They said. "You'll be back, they always come back"
I didn't go back, but always had an invite to the Christmas party

It's such an unpopular opinion these days, but I have a soft spot for Panerai. Loving my 683. Another place to hunt could be a JLC. Alot of bang for your buck and can be swooped up used for a nice discount!
